The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 4 is going to have a contestant from the US this Saturday. Sunil Thakkar is the first Indian from US to participate in Laughter Challenge. There have been many participants from Pakistan but for the first time a contestant had been selected from overseas. Sunil spent the early years of his life in Mumbai. He later moved to the US where he did his schooling followed by engineering and an MBA in marketing. “I have a bit of both the worlds in me. Before moving to the US, I was a typical Mumbaikar. I love to express myself and act. In the US, I worked as an RJ for a radio channel called‘Masala Cruise’. I had created a mini India in the US with this channel. I wasn’t sure of being selected for this show because my type of comedy differs to the one we find here. I was not sure that it will be accepted in India but the reaction I got from the judges was phenomenal.” said Sunil. He appears to be extremely thrilled after landing in his favourite city, Mumbai. He even puts on the tapori Mumbai accent to get the feel of being in Mumbai. Laughter Challenge happened to him by chance. “I have appeared in Masala Cruise’s commercials on Indian Satellite Channels in various comic roles, from dacoit to Mahabharat’s Arjun, to Indian Police Inspector. Someone suggested me to send my tape within two days. I got selected and here I am,” quips the NRI. Looking at Sunil’s excitement about this city and Indian audience, we assume that he plans to stay back in Mumbai. He clears, “I am going to have my one foot in Mumbai and the other foot in the US. I will have to leave for the US soon once as the shoot gets over. I have a business there, so I can’t leave US. However, I’m open to taking up such shows in future.”
