RR team manager Romi Bhinder shared insights into Sooryavanshi’s recent interactions with the two iconic players. Reflecting on a match earlier this season against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, Bhinder recalled a memorable exchange between Dhoni and the rising star.
“MS Dhoni also praised him a lot, he said 'ok, you got the baby in your team. The baby is showing the great shots like a matured player,'” Bhinder told Sports Today (via Hindustan Times).
Bhinder highlighted striking similarities between Sooryavanshi and Dhoni, noting their composed demeanors and fearless strokeplay.
"Yes, he met Dhoni the last game we played in Guwahati. So he met Mahi. He will again meet him in our reverse fixture against CSK. But I can see similar traits in both men. Both are calm and cool, but still play aggressive cricketing shots. So there are a few similarities," Bhinder added.
Beyond his admiration for Dhoni, Sooryavanshi is also a self-proclaimed fan of Virat Kohli. According to Bhinder, the teenager was thrilled to meet the former Indian captain, who generously offered guidance on maintaining humility and dedication.
"Vaibhav likes Virat Kohli a lot. They met and shared a couple of tips. Virat also told him that how to be grounded and how to stay humble and work hard," said Bhinder.
Sooryavanshi's breathtaking knock came during RR’s must-win encounter against Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 28. After GT set a daunting target of 209/4 in their 20 overs, the young opener took charge from the outset, punishing the bowlers with a fierce assault during the powerplay and beyond.
His explosive innings saw him reach a century in just 35 balls before falling for 101 off 38 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and six maximums, at a strike rate of 265.79. Thanks to his heroic effort, Rajasthan Royals comfortably chased down the total in just 15.5 overs, securing victory with eight wickets in hand and keeping their playoff hopes alive.
