Apu's song and The Coffin Maker in Intl. competition section of IFFI

Apu
Two Indian films viz Kaushik Ganguly’s Apu’s Song and The Coffin Maker by Veena Bakshi have been selected to feature in the International Competition section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from 20 to 30 November. Apu’s Song is a real-life story inspired by Subir Banerjee, the child actor who played the iconic role of Apu in Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali. The film released theatrically in August 1955 and it has been 58 long years hence. But ironically Subir never became a part of any film again in his entire life. The film sees Subir reminiscing about his life while on his way to receive an award in a film festival in Germany. The Coffin Maker, set in a small village in Goa tells the story of Anton Gomes (Naseeruddin Shah) who comes from a family of accomplished carpenters and takes up coffin-making when difficult circumstances render him jobless and penniless. Cynical and disillusioned Anton exists. Till one day the inevitable (death) challenges his life. The International Competition Jury is to be chaired by Serbian filmmaker Goran Paskaljevic while Victor Banerjee, Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, French filmmaker Claire Denis and Afghan filmmaker Atiq Rahimi form the other members of the Jury are Indian actor, declared Director of the IFFI Shankar Mohan. Noted Serbian film director Goran Paskaljevic would head the jury of the competition section of forthcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled to be held in Goa from 20 November.
