MUMBAI: This year, only a few Bollywood films did well at the box office, but many Hindi dubbed versions of South movies left a strong mark at the ticket window. This has started a debate about Bollywood vs South films, and moviegoers have started feeling that South filmmakers and actors are delivering the content that they want to watch.

We are in the last month of 2022, and soon the year will end. So, before that happens, here we are with a list of Hindi dubbed versions of South films that did well at the box office…

RRR

It was expected that RRR would do exceptionally well at the box office in the Hindi markets, and the reason behind it was SS Rajamouli. Before RRR, the filmmaker had directed the Baahubali franchise which was a blockbuster, so of course, and everyone was eagerly waiting for the Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer. Also, one of the plus points of the film was two big names from Bollywood in it, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. The movie collected Rs. 274.31 crores at the box office.

KGF: Chapter 2

The box office collection of the Hindi dubbed version of Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2 surprised one and all. Everyone was expecting that it would do well, but the movie took a bumper opening of Rs. 53.95 crores (Hindi), and the lifetime collection of the film was Rs. 434.70 crores (Hindi).

Karthikeya 2

RRR had SS Rajamouli’s name attached to it and the sequel factor worked for KGF 2, but Nikhil Siddhartha’s Karthikeya 2 worked because of its content. The Hindi dubbed version of the film took a slow opening of Rs. 7 lakh, but went on to collect Rs. 31.05 crores at the box office.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 did decently well at the box office in the Hindi markets. Though the expectations from the film were a bit high as there was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in it, still it managed to collect Rs. 25.12 crores at the box office.

Kantara

How can we not have Kantara on the list? Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara’s Hindi dubbed version has collected Rs. 79.25 crores at the box office, which is excellent. Many Bollywood films starring big stars have not even managed to collect half of what Kantara’s Hindi version minted.
