Weighed down considerably by the enormous responsibility of single-handedly providing for her large family, young Indira Sharma (played by Rati Pandey) throws herself into the daunting task and the well-being of her family becomes her sole agenda in life. Dharampatni is a new serial on Imagine TV that is loosely based on the relationship between Kasturba and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

It is a story of the unwavering love, strength and commitment that every Indian woman has towards her husband. Furthermore, the show talks about all the silent sacrifices that a woman makes for the betterment of her family.

This story is about a Gujarati family residing in a village, near Surat, called Dharampur. The village has been established by the partriarch, Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi, of the Mahiyavanshi family. He is a very rich and well respected but an egoistic diamond merchant who has a well established empire and more than 2000 workers are employed by him.
