Prashant Tamang

India's famous singing reality show Indian Idol gave us some terrific singers over the years who are ruling several hearts with their singing skills.

After Abhijit Sawant and Meiyang Chang, it's Indian Idol 3 winner Prashant Tamang's turn to face the arclights. The 26-year-old from Darjeeling is in the headlines for starring in a Nepali film <em>Gurkha Paltan</em> (The Soldier Brigade). Tamang, who became a youth icon in Nepal, is shooting in Palpa district (central Nepal). Nepali singer Narayan Rayamajhi is directing the film and it's his debut too. It is a story of young Nepali men who are forced to join foreign armies for want of opportunities in their own country and the hardships they undergo.

Prashant Tamang’s win in <em> Indian Idol 3 </em> has not only been an inspiration for the youth of this country but also for the people of Nepal. This awe-inspiring tale of a police constable will now be made into a film by the Nepali film industry. Prashant himself has done the scripting and its needles to say he’ll act in this film.
