Actors forget that they are mere puppets: Misha Gautam

Misha Gautam
Misha Gautam is a well known name in the industry having produced, directed, written and conceptualized TV shows and films. In his 40s, this creative person is busy exploring every creative chord in him. In a conversation with his Tellychakkar.com, Misha speaks about his journey, facing starry tantrums and more. Excerpts: Tell us about your journey in the industry? (pauses) Having started as an intern with Subhash Ghai, I have been in the industry for 18 years now. In my first year with Subhashji, he put me into productions, the second year, I devoted myself in writing, third year in editing and fourth in direction. After this, I worked in Ajay Devgn’s home production that made his initial films like Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha, Dil Kya Kare and Raju Chacha as an assistant director and special effects director. Later, I got an opportunity to produce a serial named Devi with Mohnish Behl and Sakshi Tanwar. I also edited this serial apart from directing it. Later, I also went on to produce shows like Yeh Meri Life Hai, Kaajjal and Ek Ladki Anjani Si. Since I am not a commercial person, I decided to be on the creative side of things. I have also been writing concepts. Did you always want to be a part of the entertainment industry? (smiles) Since my engineering days, I always had an inclination towards the entertainment industry as I used to write plays, direct and also act in them. Incidentally, though my father Desh Gautam was a film director, he wanted me to become an engineer. So, I completed my studies just because of him but soon after, I joined Subhashji. Any plans of getting back to producing shows? No, I want to produce films now. Right now, I am in the process of producing and directing a Punjabi film. Is there anything that you feel you’d want to do five years down the line? I love music and I’d want to compose a song someday. So, though I am 43 now, I am taking piano classes. Does stardom change people? (pauses) When we make new shows, we also audition in small towns. At times, girls and boys from these towns get selected. There are actors who are chosen to act in a show and that goes into their head and then they develop starry airs. These actors forget the fact that an actor is just a puppet. An actor does not write his dialogue, put his make-up or sets the lights, but unfortunately because he/she is the face of the creation, they become popular. How do you handle the tantrum on the sets? (smiles) I do not take it from anyone. If the actor does not behave properly, I will leave the sets before he does. Tell us a bit about your family? I stay with my dad, mom, wife and two children.
