In daily shows, audiences hardly find variety in fashion: Partho Ghoshal, Stylist

Partho Ghoshal, Stylist

Television's latest bahu Rajni Kant aka Ridhima Pandit has impressed fans and critics alike. Apart from her acting skills what has made us appreciate her even more is her fashion taste.

Now, meet Partho Ghoshal, the man behind Rajni’s picture perfect looks. Hailing from Kolkata, Partho holds a degree in fashion designing from NIFT (National Institue of Fashion Technology). Always wanting to style his models differently, this fashion stylist has quite a few number of shows in his kitty.

Recently, we chatted with the young man for an interview. Excerpt.

How did your transition in the fashion industry happen?

After completing my graduation from Dumdum Motijhil College, I joined NIFT to do a diploma course on fashion designing. Then I worked there for a year before moving to Mumbai. After moving here, I joined Poonam Babel as her assistant. As i gradually became capable enough to work independently, I started working as stylist for shows like Sasural Genda Phool, Gustakh Dil, Zindagi Abhi Baki Hai Mere Ghost and now Bahu Humari Rajni_Kant.

Do you have a particular style that you follow while styling an artist?

Honestly speaking, I really don’t understand the concept how a character can look the exact Xerox copy of the other one. In daily soaps, audiences can hardly notice any variety in the costume of the artists. When in real life we try different forms of attires then why not to use those with actors. I have always kept in mind to use something fresh and colourful for my artists so that it provides freshness to the audience as well. After all, nowadays audiences are also pretty fashion conscious.

What is the most challenging part in your job?

At times, getting your work done on a day to day basis in the hustle bustle of the daily soaps things can be tiring. But, the biggest issue I believe is the professional politics going on in the industry. It often happens that after developing an original design for a project, the work later on gets credited to a a senior. But, I don’t pay much attention to that. I am happy to do my own work.

Do you think that designer in the industry do not get much credit in comparison to what they deserve?

Well, that I believe depends mostly on the shows. If a show becomes a huge hit then people start noticing the work of every single department or the crew of the series. On the contrary, if a show turns out to be flop, the result also turns out to be negative. Laut Aao Trisha was a show which got lots of appreciation in the industry for its costume department. But the show couldn’t manage to grab eyeballs resulting into the failure to capture the attention of the larger audience.

Who are your idols?

Sabyasachi, Gauarav Gupta and Anamika Khanna, are three people whom I look up to when it comes to fashion designing. And in international platform I like Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen.

Do you intend to have your own fashion show or keep an eye on Bollywood?

Of course, I do. Everyone wants to make it big in Bollywood. I have already done one Bollywood flick. I have certain designs on my mind and would like to experiment with those once I have a fashion show of my own or find a sponsor for me.

Finally, any star on your wish list whom you would like to style some day?

Hrithik Roshan. Such a stylish personality he is. I would definitely like to style him some day.
