Jayesh Patil is a versatile man. He has been a part of the television industry for quite some time now. He has been an actor, scriptwriter and what not. He exemplifies creativity and passion. He was writing the script of Bade Acche Lagte Hain pre the leap sequence. His efforts won him the Best Writer Award at the Eleventh Indian Telly Awards. Tellychakkar.com entered into a hearty chat with Jayesh wherein he shared his personal and professional life with us. Excerpts: How did your journey commence in this industry? Well… I was born and raised in Mumbai. I was associated with a theater group wherein I wrote plays and even won awards for my efforts. Later, I met Aatish Kapadia and got a chance to write for Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka. This marked the beginning of my television journey. How did you bag Bade Achhe…? While script writing, I was also dabbling with acting. During one such day I got a call from Balaji Telefilms. They asked me to write for Bade Acche. What challenges did you face in this industry? Yes, initially I faced some monetary issues. There was a lot of competition around, but then I worked on myself and up my standards. Later, things started falling into place. How is your rapport with Ekta Kapoor? I must say she is a very intelligent human being. I have learnt a lot from her. We changed scripts as per the demands of the masses. In Bade Acche…we scripted the leap sequence really well. Didn’t Bade Acche… face competition at the prime time slot? No… I would like to remind you all that 10.30 pm for Sony Entertainment television was a dead slot. After Bade Acche, the it opened up. Moreover, as scriptwriters, we should understand the need of the hour. I don’t think many would have thought that a middle-aged love story would work. Tell us something about your working pattern? I work for eight months in a year and then take a break. Talking about my profession, I have to sit with several actors, directors and make sure they understand the script. Sometimes, channel also tells us to make changes in scripts to hike up TRPs. In case of Balaji, Ekta Kapoor usually attends all the meetings. Finally, I give the final script to the director and he does the rest. Why did you leave Bade Acche…? As I mentioned, I work for eight months and then take time off to rejuvenate. At Bade Acche, I was exhausted as a writer so needed time off. I did not want to act just for the sake of it. What are your future plans? I am working on few scripts and I am very open to television, movies and theater. I believe that if a story is creative then it will work no matter what.
