Rizoota Kashyap Chaubey is one name that everybody on the sets of Colors’ Sanskaar- Dharohar Apno Ki (Anahita/Cinemantra Productions) is familiar with. Reason? She is involved with everything that unfolds in the show being the creative director.

In a conversation with Tellychakkar.com, she talks about her journey and more….

When and how did you get into the entertainment industry?

(pauses) My emtry into the entertainment industry was a co-incidence taking into account that I am an MBA in Finance. During my college days, I used to take part in theatre and during this time I tried participating in Zee TV’s Antakshari. But unfortunately I did not get through. But I did receive a call from the channel asking me if I’d like to act in their then upcoming show Awaz Dil Se Dil Tak. Having already made up my mind to not get into acting ever, I said a straight “no” but later I went on to join them as an Executive Producer (EP). I also ended up being an EP for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

What was next in line?

Since I had joined Zee TV in order to understand the functioning of the entertainment industry, it was still not a career option for me. I was still hoping to take up a job in accordance with my qualification. But then once you get in, the industry does not let you go. I recall the time when I was working with Gajendra Singh on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa when one of our assistant directors did not turn up to work one day. It was then that Gajendraji asked me to go and direct interviews of participants. That was my first day in the field of direction and I almost fell in love with it. Later, I went on to become a creative director. Till then I was working with Zee TV, but then it was time for me to move on.

Was it then that you got into a production house for the first time?

Yes, it was then that I joined Balaji Telefilms and started working on its show Cosmic Chat for Zoom. After that, I worked on shows like Kesar and Kahiin Toh Hoga. During this time, I became the creative head of Balaji and also started writing episodes; not all, but a few of them. Post Balaji, I turned a freelancer and worked with Contiloe in Sujata for Sony TV, Pari Hoon Main for Star One and Sasural Simar Ka for Colors. And as you know, right now I am the creative director for Sanskaar.

What are the responsibilities of a creative director?

It starts from the word ‘GO’! A creative director has to look into everything from the look to script and from editing to mailing things to the channel.

How do you handle crisis on the sets?

Since I have a very good team for Sanskaar, everybody is always there to help in times of crisis, be it from the actors’ end or the technicians.

How do you balance work and personal life?

I am indeed fortunate that my family back home is very supportive of me. The strongest pillar in my life is of course my husband (Vivek Chaubey) who is always there to back me.
