2013 - Top 10 shows on Hindi GECs
‘2013’ is coming to an end and it has been a year of highs and lows for the General Entertainment Channels (GECs). A lot of shows saw major setback – Punar Vivah-Ek Nayi Umeed, Khoobsurat, Amrit Manthan, Parichay – with them going off-air in a jiffy while there have been others which have ruled the roost at the ratings front. We at Tellychakkar.com get you the list of top 10 shows of – 2013 (The shows are arranged alphabetically). Balika Vadhu (Sphere Origins): . This 1000 plus episodes Colors serial went on air when the television space was filled with saas-bahu sagas. It managed to break the ice then and four years from there on it has still managed to maintain its niche amongst the masses. Balika is definitely not the number one show on Hindi GEC as far as the charts are concerned but, its art of storytelling is still as fresh as it was back then. Its biggest strength is its star cast that understands this show in and out and also manages to strike the right cord with its audiences. In fact ‘2013’ was full of challenges with the show’s lead Pratyusha Banerjee moving out and Toral Rasputra being roped in as the new Anandi which, did give this project a jolt. But, its writers managed to get it back on track. There was another tough moment when Sriti Jha better known as Ganga decided to quit but the team again managed to balance this out by roping in Sargun Mehta. A battle won without challenges is not victory but Balikahas emerged as a victorious show thus, it deserves to be in our list of top ten shows. CID (Fireworks Productions): . Every kid in this country has known three faces on Hindi GEC pretty well. They are – ACP Pradhyuman (Shivaji Satam), Abhijeet (Aditya Srivastava) and Daya (Dayanand Shetty). These three have become larger than life characters in the past 16 years due to their stint in Sony Entertainment Television’s show CID. Yes! It is remarkable and the credit goes to its characters and the creative team. They have been churning out crime stories one after the other with ACP telling Daya – Daya Darwaza tod do! in every episode. We also cannot ignore the fact that when most of the fiction shows have failed to make their mark on Sony, CID has been its driving force for a long time now. Comedy Nights with Kapil (K9/SOL Productions): . This one is definitely a special show as it managed to sky rocket its popularity in a quick time. And the credit of its success completely goes to the host of the show Kapil Sharma. He is the man who taught the nation to laugh on silly jokes and make the comic genre work for a channel like Colors which was known for making social reform shows. Today every star wants to be a part of Comedy Nights With Kapil. The best example is of SRK coming on this show not once but twice as he was so much in awe of Kapil. The project also had its share of off screen moments with its set catching fire and Sunil Grover (Gutthi) opting out of the project. But, in spite of all the highs and lows it has managed to maintain its popularity. Akhir haar Kar bhi jeetne wale ko baazigar kehte hai! Way to go Kapil!!! Diya Aur Baati Hum (Shashi Sumeet Mittal Productions Pvt. Ltd): . This show has been topping the TVT charts for almost two years now thus, it definitely deserves to be here. It started with the story of a simple girl Sandhya (Deepika Singh) who wanted to become an IPS officer but ended up getting married to a cook (halwai). But, she managed to get her soul mate in him. Suraj (Anas Rashid) is someone who supports her with her dreams. However, there have been a lot of roadblocks on her way. Probably the roadblocks make the show intriguing and captivating. Jodha Akbar (Balaji Telefilms): . Whoever thought that a historical show could get such love and appreciation on a Hindi GEC? But, Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar has managed to be a wonder show. It started slowly and steadily and then went on to take a leap. Today it stands second on the TVT charts with a huge fan following. And we wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes the number one show on Hindi GEC as this historical saga is moving at a great pace. Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara (Rajshri Productions): . This Star Plus show has all the ingredients that a Rajshri project must have. There are no out-and-out negative characters neither are there any fight scenes but love, anxiety, sadness and jealousy. This mixture seems to have worked for the show as its being liked by one and all. In fact the cute and adorable pairing of Disha Parmar and Nakuul Mehta as the lead pair Aditya and Pankhuri too has worked here. This sweet show is climbing the ladder of success slowly and steadily but looking at its 2013 graph we believe it deserves to be in our list of top shows. Qubool Hai (4 Lions Films): . Gul Khan’s (Producer Qubool Hai) effort to present a unique love story on Hindi GEC actually worked. There is no denying the fact that its lead Karan Singh Grover managed to pull the audiences’ interest courtesy his huge fan following. But, then it was the story that kept them glued to it. The creative team’s effort to create a character like Zoya (being played by Surbhi Jyoti) worked well for the serial. So, basically the show is a mix of magical ingredients that managed to cast a magical spell on the viewers. Hum Ne Li Hai … Shapath (Fireworks Productions): . This crime based show started with the usual cops fighting the goons plot which of course did not get it anywhere on the TVT charts. But soon the creative team came up with the idea of super villians and turned this ‘run of the mill’ show into sci-fi drama, basically a complete entertainer for the kids. And it did work! In fact it also went on to push Life OK’s top most show Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev in the second place. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (Neela Telefilms): . How many of our GEC shows have a Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and a South Indian family staying together in the same society? Well none as most of the stories revolve between two families of the same cast but this family entertainer – rib tickling drama has all in it. It manages to stand out of the crowd in the number race. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Director’s Kut): . This family drama is probably the simplest show that you’d come across in GECs but it managed to carve its place in the hearts of the audiences over these years. Akshara (Hina Khan) and Natik (Karan Mehra) are the idol pair on Indian television and this show will continue doing well. This was our list of top ten shows but, there are a few more serials that have managed to prove their mettle in the year - 2013. The list is here… Zee TV’s Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke –. It managed to win hearts of the masses, not just the younger but also the older lot of our country. Next is Crime Patrol. which is a very big property for Sony today. It was basically the trend setter for real life crime stories being aired in fiction. Furthermore, we have two love stories on our list which are Colors’ Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon. and Sony’s Jee Le Zara. While Madhubala has already made its place in the hearts of its audiences Jee Le Zara is warming up slowly and steadily. This was our list of top ten shows on Hindi GEC.
