Bengali TV actors celebrate Nabo Barsho

The first day of baishakhi calendar is celebrated with much joy and fun. Bengalis all across the world gear up to celebrate their new year with their loved ones with some special delicacies. Known to be food lovers, any occasion is incomplete for bongs without food.

As we spoke to som of TV’s popular Bengali actors they shared their memories of Poila Baishak and the plans for the day.

Firstly Tina Dutta quipped, “Bengali New Year is very special for us. We call it Nobo Borsho. We do puja early morning and we make lot of Bengali dishes. Since it’s a new years I will be wearing new clothes and with mom in town, it’s going to be all the more special for me. I will take her out for lunch to some Bengali restaurant. I will also visit the temple to take blessings. Fondest memories will be my childhood days when I used to spend the whole day with family members in Kolkata.”

Sayantani Ghosh is celebrating the day with her parents and like a true Bong has already paid a visit to the temple early in the morning. “Yesterday night we had a special dinner at our place with few friends and prepared some mouth watering delicacies like Kosha Mangsho and Doi Machh. And today, thankfully I managed to get an off day and as one of my Bengali friends is coming over for lunch, so, we are going to enjoy a lot”.

Echoing her thoughts, Sumona Chakravarti said, “Though I don’t have any special plan for the day, I will go out for dinner with my family at ‘Oh! Calcutta’ as, my mom has decided not to enter the kitchen. The place is a must visit on such occasion for every Bong, who is away from Bengal”.

Another Bong beauty, Pratyusha Banerjee, seemed to enjoy the day with special gifts which she received from her mom. She shared, “My mother has showered me with lots of gifts including perfume, t-shirts and chocolates. Moreover, my mother has prepared some yummy Bengali delicacies, which I am going to enjoy”.

Walking down the memory lane, actress Ishita Ganguly shared her childhood memories. “Being in Mumbai on Poila Baishakh is so different from being in Bengal. Even if I was busy working, there used to be special Baishakhi Addas (Baishakhi meet) in the day, which I really miss here”.

Debina Bonnerjee, who is an active member of the Bengali community, reminiscing about his childhood days shared, “Though the month of April used to be the month of examination, I used to enjoy two days, one is Poila Baishak and my birthday so much.”

And finally it’s a double treat for dashing actor Rohit Roy, as the man is not only celebrating the first day of Bengali New Year but also her better half Mansi’s birthday. Rohit mentioned, “To celebrate Mansi’s birthday we are going out of town for a short trip and spend the entire day over there.”
