It’s time to weave the new celebration plan after all the biggest festival of lights is round the corner. On this occasion, some devotees offer puja to Goddess Kali, some to Goddess Lakshmi while some to Lord Ganesha. But end of the day, with lights, sweets and crackers, it’s a big celebration time.

Basabdatta Chatterjee: I don’t work during the occasion of Kali Pujo. During these three days, I remain busy with my para (neighbourhood) pujo. I keep fast and along with my friends offer anjali to the deity. So, I will spend time with my friends and also with the children of my neighbourhood over adda and also burn some crackers.     

Siddhartha Banerjee: Kali Pujo or Diwali is a festival of lights. To us (Bengalis), Diwali means burning crackers and in Kali Pujo we remain busy mainly with the worship of the Goddess, which continues for the whole night. At my place, on this auspicious occasion, we offer puja to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. After Durga Puja, this is the time when my family members once again come together to celebrate. With Pujo Bhog (special dish for the deities) and crackers, we spend a lovely time.   

Jasmine Roy: I like burning crackers but I don’t like chocolate bombs. Actually, I am a pet lover and I have a cat. They are scared of the sound of the crackers. If they hear the sound, they literally shiver. I feel very bad about it. So, I will burn simple crackers like phuljhari. And I am not sure where I will be celebrating the occasion; it can be my place Naihati or Kolkata.   

Saugata Bandyopadhyay: I will remain busy shooting the entire day. But I will try to celebrate the occasion in the night. This is our first Diwali after marriage. Nayana (his better half) can prepare payesh (sweet dish) in several ways. She will prepare it for me but the flavour of the payesh is a surprise. I am eagerly waiting to taste it.  The thing that we both love to do is adorn the home with Diya. So, that’s also in the list. Diwali means gorging on sweet delicacies, burning crackers and also get-together with neighbours. My neighbours are more than family to me.  

Piyali Basu: I love adorning the floor of my home with alpona. I will do that the previous day. On the day of the auspicious occasion, I will perform Shyama Sangeet at the resort of my relative where they are organizing Kali Puja. In the evening I will burn crackers with my brother. However, I won’t be able to celebrate Diwali till late in the night as the very next day I will have to head to Jharkhand for a stage show. I will wrap up my celebration by 10 to 11 in the night.
