Our country gained its freedom from the British Empire on this day (15 August  in the year 1947. Our freedom fighters fought hard and sacrificed their lives for freedom of the country but what about freedom from dishonesty, disorder and disorganization? Don’t we wish to see a country free from such things too?

Tellychakkar.com caught up with few actors of Bengali television to know about the positive changes that they want to see in our country.

So, here they are sharing their wishes and also Independence Day memories. Read on-

Shampa Banerjee: For me Independence Day memories comprise of my school days in Dehradun…the flag hoisting, the singing of patriotic songs, the refreshments…Oh...I am feeling nostalgic! I wish I could go to school again! But on a more serious note today I wish our world gets independence from terrorism and we all live freely and peacefully.   

Biswarup Bandyopadhyay: I am of course proud of this day but I also feel that people should respect the country every day. What’s the point of updating the Facebook cover photo with an Indian flag on Independence Day and on other days not thinking twice before cheating a person for personal benefits or making the road untidy with rubbish? So, my wish is to see a clean country with honest men. And, if you ask about memories…well, the day reminds me of my hostel life at Ramkrishna Mission. We used to wake up early in the morning and gear up to participate in the march past and drill competitions. The military men used to come there too. Independence Day at the hostel also meant relishing special delicious foods.      

Ishaa M Saha: Well, my Independence Day memories also comprise of school days. On this day, we used to perform patriotic songs and our teachers used to distribute chocolates. And if you ask about wishes then I would say I want some free time for myself. I have so hectic schedule that I hardly get time for myself. I really wish to get some ‘free time’. On a serious note, I wish I could get an India free of ignorance and violence.

Debottam Majumder:  I wish to have a country: new India where there will be no people below poverty line; where people will live in peace and harmony. Talking about memories…well, the day reminds me about march past, holding Indian flags and flag hoisting. The day also reminds me of songs like kadam kadam badhaye ja and hum bharat ki beti hain. Now, I often find myself humming the songs all alone and back then the whole school used to sing.  

Saugata Bandyopadhyay: All my Independence Day memories are related to school. During those days, it meant waking up early in the morning to reach school before 7 am, performing patriotic songs and teachers describing about the significance of the day…As a child, I did not understand much about this day. All I thought was it’s a very serious matter. As I grew up I realized its value. However, today, I feel that we are not doing enough to uplift the country. I won’t say that I am a patriotic person but there are certain things that disturb me.  I feel we lack discipline and system. We find fun in breaking traffic rules, reaching work place late etc. Ironically, if someone is disciplined, he is tagged as a person who shows off. I wish people were little honest, little disciplined and little responsible. Following these simple principles would have provided us a good life.     

Debattama Saha: For normal people like us freedom means exemption from regulations. I am obviously proud of our nation’s freedom fighters. But has anyone thought about the poor people in our country? For them freedom means exemption from poverty. It means a lot to the people who undergo certain challenges in their lives. Well, for me freedom means to get relief from pessimist thoughts and be positive in life. During my school days, on this day, I used to participate in march past or perform dance and songs. That is the sweetest memory I have. I would like to share a message with all the citizens of our country that India stands in need of liberation. It still has to learn to love. Though, it is a song which I learnt in my school but I hope that all the citizens of our country follow this to make India a developed country rather than developing. I wish everyone a very happy Independence Day…Jai Hind!
