The legendary Indian cartoonist, the Common Man of India passed away yesterday leaving his numerous wonderful creations with us, at the age of 93 in Pune. He wonderfully captured the Indian political scenario with his creation for more than half a century. Our television stars who grew up with his cartoons remember the legend with us.

Vishal Malhotra- R K Laxman’s name reminds me of my childhood days. The way in which he dealt with sensitive issues through his creation the ‘Common Man’ is something we should learn from him. I think now when the country is politically awakening we needed him more than ever before. The best part about an artist’s life is that he lives through his work but, it is sad that we won’t be able to get some more new creations from him.

Vandana Pathak- He was a legend and words are too small to mourn this loss. The only thing I used to read as a kid was his cartoons. His works are the reflection of the life of Common Man. And I really feel honoured to be associated with the show R K Laxman Ki Duniya, which was based on his cartoons. I met him twice or thrice. The last time I met him was in Pune two years back and that time he was too weak to talk but he made a painting for me, which is very precious.

Manav Gohil- Since the time I started reading newspaper, I read his cartoons and grew up with his creations. At that time I couldn’t understand his message but as I grew up I started understanding his thoughts. The most fascinating thing about his work is the way he communicated his thoughts. Over the decades people have changed, governments have changed but he was consistent with his works.

Apara Mehta- As a child I was taught to read TOI and R K Laxman’s cartoons. And being from a politically conscious family I could understand his satires. Through his ‘Common Man’, he actually presented how a common man is nothing but a bystander in the situation. Now, as a mother I teach my daughter to read his works.

Dilip Joshi- It is indeed a great loss for the country as we have lost a Legend. I am very shocked and sad at the moment. He remained so successful to present the current situation sarcastically with so few words. Definitely he has done his best and it was his unique way to show a mirror to the society and now, I guess it’s time for someone else to carry on with his legacy.

Rajesh Kumar- I remember as a kid, the first thing I used to do in the morning after opening the newspaper was to read his cartoons. Even now, when I close my eyes the image of common man comes in front of my eyes. I think the best way to tribute him is to follow his philosophy and imbibe it in our daily life.

Kabir Sadanand- He is an iconic person and definitely this is a great loss for us. He has been so influential in our lives that he changed the basic outlook of a Common Man. But, I believe he is immortal through his work.
