How did you keep the contestants constantly motivated ?

The initial weeks were a challenge for me as they were away from home and their family, competing with not just the other participants, but with themselves too. I did make an effort to get to know every contestant. Being there for them, telling them`You can do it' did make a difference. There were times when losing the challenges demotivated them. The Red team lost couple of episodes initially as they used to be completely down and out.

Few participants also required personal attention at times. Useful tips on how to workout best, what fitness regime and diet to follow also helped. My role has been more of a friend and teacher than a judge.

How important is it for you to be a good role model for the contestant?

A role model is someone you look upto. With my disciplined and healthy lifestyle I did try to motivate the contestants. Despite my extremely busy schedule of movies, advertisements and public appearances, I do manage to stay fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Do you find it a challenge to maintain a balanced diet or a regular workout routine?

By now, my body is tuned to both a healthy and balanced diet along with regular workouts. Through the years of following a disciplined life and regular workouts regime I have managed to maintain myself. I am a teetotaller and I don't attend late night parties. I am into sports too. Nothing is difficult in life.

At the time when the reality shows are far too many, what was so unique about this show?

What makes our show different from the other reality shows is the concept itself. It is about 16 common, obese individuals coming together for battle of the bulge and lose weight that also holds a gratification for them to win big money. It is not about how you dance, sing or act. It is about how determined you are to bring a change in your life.

How did you enjoy your transition from the big Screen to the small screen ?

I had an idea that it is going to be different and I wanted to dedicate my time to this project, which is why I took a sabbatical from movies. But, it was only after I started shooting for the show that I realised how difficult TV can be. It requires many more working hours than films. But the gratification I've got from this show is incomparable.

What prompted you to host Biggest loser Jeetega?

That's a very interesting story actually. When I met the producers of the show, they were here to offer me a film, which I said I'd give a thought to. However, during our meeting, I noticed that he was carrying some DVDs with him. On asking about the DVD's he told me what he had in mind and left them here for me to see. They contained all episodes of a season of the international format of Biggest Loser. When I watched it, I completed the entire set in one go and was extremely impressed with the show. I immediately contacted the producers and told them that I can't guarantee on the movie, but I definitely wanted to be a part of this show.

How do you think this program can help in making people health conscious?

India is rapidly gaining ground as an obese nation.Unless someone makes you realize the hard hitting facts of obesity, you are not likely to make an effort to lose weight. This show is real; showing real people fighting a real life problem. They go through the same obstacles in losing weight as one does in our everyday lifestyle. Viewers would have noticed the change in every participant week-on-week.

How have things changed for you with the great success of Biggest Loser Jeetega?

Overall there is nothing specific that I can pick out. But I would certainly like to mention that it has helped me change the lives of 16 people. I have also been able to reach out to millions of viewers and touch their lives, even if it is in the smallest possible manner; this gives a kind of satisfaction I've never seen before. Here I am telling people about the subject that's so close to my heart - health, fitness and good living.
