The Viranis of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhii Bahu Thi have recently moved out of their sprawling bungalow to a chawl. The super rich family will soon settle- in in the one-room chawl. It is interesting to know that Gautami (Tulsi) began her life in a chawl. Having spent many years in the humble surroundings, Gautami is well-prepared for the new angle in Kyunkii ... In a free wheeling chat with tellychakkar the actress talks of her journey so far. When asked how difficult it would be to essay a life in the chawl? She answered, “It may be a bit difficult for the younger generation to adjust as they are used to a luxurious life, but we are there for them. As far as I am concerned I don’t think it would be a problem for me as I have spent my good four to five years in a chawl with my parents.” So we got in touch with Gautami and tried finding out the untouched strings of her life and a lot more about her career. Tell us about your life in the chawl I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t want to use it as a publicity gimmick. I think it is not an important thing and we rather concentrate on the changing track of Kyunkii I think that the statement that I made about my life should not be further publicised. What do you have to say about the sprawling chawl in which you will be shooting? See, on-screen it will look very real; it would look like a chawl. It is practically impossible to shoot in a real chawl with such a huge cast. If we do so we will have to hire security to get the crowd organised. Why can’t a young actress like you play her age, why a Tulsi? I got this offer from Balaji, for whom I have a long standing relation. Tulsi is an iconic character and the most popular and loved bahu on Indian television, so I would be a fool not saying yes to the offer. How difficult/easy was it to work on an already established character? Well, it was a huge challenge. This character is not just two or three years old, it is running for the last seven years. It was portrayed beautifully before I was introduced so the challenge was even tougher. But I have been loyal to my profession and possess the talent to back my potential. I just needed time and patience from the viewers which I got. The track of Kyunkii (shifting to the chawl) is very similar to the past track of Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki, where the Agarwal family during their bad days was also shifted to a chawl Your take on the similarity of the tracks? Honestly, I didn’t know about the similarity of the tracks. Talking about my serial I think this is a very nice and simple track. It is full of drama. It will show the flavour of the family and their togetherness in such a difficult situation. The beauty of the track lies in its simplicity. Even the tracks of the bahus of all K-serials tend to follow the same track? I portray the character of any common woman in the society. Even in real life the women in the society go through the similar problems and situations. In real life too I have stood up for my family in tough times and fought for myself. It is the characterisation of any common woman. How about working with your husband Ram Kapoor? He was there for a short while playing a negative role in Kyunkii But as even he is busy with his assignments he couldn’t continue for long. I hope Ekta comes up again with something like this so that we get to work together. What about that taveez (amulet) that you are wearing? We visited this chawl in Jogeshwari and the people from the chawl gave us this taveez. They also performed puja and gave us Ganesha’s idol. We were touched by such an overwhelming response from them. They gave us the taveez to see us through tough times and we promised them that we will never remove it. It is actually out of their love and our belief. Which is that one role that you would like to essay other than Tulsi? I got the role of my life and I don’t think I can ask for anything better.
