Avika Gor made a splash on TV with her turn as a child bride in Balika Vadhu. Today, she is still known as Anandi even though her show has leaped ahead with a new actress stepping into her shoes. And so Avika has moved on to yet another show on Colors, the newly-launched Sasural Simar Ka, which she plays the second lead and a self-admitted TV buff. In a chat with TellyChakkar she talks about her journey in the industry and also her future plans. Have things changed for you from Balika Vadhu to now? A lot has changed. My work was different in Balika Vadhu and so was my character. But, here I am a TV buff so I have to keep myself updated about what’s happening on the tube. Here too I will have to show my extra talent to impress people as I did in Balika Vadhu so I am working harder here. I do not want people to see the same thing. I want to give them something different. We saw you weeping all the time on Balika Vadhu, do we get to see you laugh now? It was a child marriage story there but this is light-hearted. So there are going to be cute twists and turns and everything is going to be fun here. Do you think Sasural Simar Ka will be better than Balika Vadhu? I had done Rajkumar Aryan, Shh… Koi Hai, Meri Awaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni, Chalti ka Naam Gadi and Karam Apna Apna before I got Balika Vadhu. But my experience on Colors, especially with Balika Vadhu was very very special. It was a beautiful character and I took it up as a challenge. Now I have yet another challenge from them so I’d say Balika Vadhu was my right hand and Rolly is my left. You had done a few shows earlier but it was Balika Vadhu that established you as an actor. Was it sheer luck? I did not play any character for more than four months till Balika Vadhu happened to me. Even when I got Balika Vadhu I was to be there for 80 episodes but people liked me so much that they saw me in more than 515 episodes. So, yes I was lucky to get this character. Do you watch Balika Vadhu anymore? Yes, I do watch it and I do watch other shows too. For Rolly, I have to keep myself updated, I watch Na Aana Iss Des Laado, Phulwa, Mrs. Tendulkar and a lot of other shows. On this show, you will be taking advantage of this young guy who likes you. Have you ever tried this trick in real life? I have good friends so I do not have to play tricks to make them do things for me. They do it for me. Doesn’t your acting affect your studies? I am in ninth standard now and I go to school every day. It’s only after school that I come to shoot. So it does not affect anything. How do your friends treat you in school? Earlier all my friends used to call me chuhiya, bindani and now they call me Rolly. It’s nice to be with them as all of them are very nice and they love me. Do you get enough time for yourself? I do. I play and also go out and enjoy with my friends. Some days ago my friends were going to have ice-cream and my mother let me go with them. But then there were people asking me if I had played Anandi; it’s nice to have people love you. Do you want to take up acting in films? Eventually I want to be Miss Universe post which I will do modelling and acting. I want to be a successful Bollywood actress. Do you have any favourite actress? I have this list. I like Madhuri Dixit’s and Karisma Kapoor’s dancing. I like Kajol for her acting, I think Rekhaji and Aishwarya Rai are very good looking, Sushmita Sen is very smart and Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor have the best personalities. The others have some or the other good quality and I will take some or the other thing from all of them. Do you have any favourite actors too? I like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor’s dancing, acting of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek (Bachchan) have great personalities. I want to ask Aamir (Khan) from where he’s got all that talent. Someday I would want to be perfect in everything, just like him. If you get an opportunity to go out on a date with someone, who would it be? I would go out with someone who looks like Shah Rukh Khan, dances like Shahid, has Hrithik’s body. He should be tall like John (Abraham), should have Amitabhji’s personality and he should be good in acting. Have you got any proposals from your male friends yet? I am just 13 and maybe guys are scared to ask me out. How many hours do you have in a day? I have 72 hours in a day. How many hours do you sleep for? I never count but I sleep well. You have lost weight did you go through any exercise routine to get in shape? I love potatoes so I have a lot of them. Hence, there is no diet plan or anything but I do aerobics and have been doing it since I was a kid and I am growing taller too.
