This Maharashtrian mulgi from Mumbai has her eyes set on Bollywood and the inspiration to make it big, she says, came from ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar, who's been a big support to the pretty lass. With dancing and scuba diving being her passion, and a soon to be released Santro ad with Shah Rukh Khan under her belt, this model turned actor cum anchor has a long way to go.
Kavita Shyam spoke to vivacious Vidya
Me…
I am a simple, middle class Maharashtrian girl and I belong to a family of lawyers and doctors. I studied law too but I decided to become a flight attendant and flew with Lufthansa and KLM airways for two years. Along the way, I also did a fair bit of modeling and finally films happened.
Work on my plate
I am still doing films and have two films releasing this year (Take Two and Bitter Rains). I did Inteha with Ashmit Patel and U, Bomsi and Me. I have done 40 ad films. And now I am hosting a show but I never thought of myself as an anchor. I guess I am more of an actor.
Hosting Mirchi Top 20
I love traveling and that's the reason why I chose to become a flight attendant. Hosting this show is a fun experience and it helps that I will be needed to travel a lot for this show. We don't require to rehearse for the show but I am happier playing characters and it would take time to get used to the hosting bit. It feels like I am on a paid holiday though it does get hectic at times. I am a complete shopaholic and I don't get the time to buy or look through the stores.
For instance, I had gone to Gold Coast (Australia) and there was this dolphin show which I can never forget. It was a beautiful moment and I had the freedom to touch and pat the dolphins while the others didn't.
Dance... my passion
I am a trained Kathak dancer, besides I have learnt ballet, salsa with Sandeep Soparrkar and tap dance too. Basically I like to learn different forms of dances but I find tap dance awesome!
Personal life
I have no time for personal life but I take out time for my family and friends. I am going to Goa for the Santro ad. I live for today and I would say I am a happy person. I have lots of dreams, am a clean hearted person, I am an exuberant person but can be moody at times.
