"I was not enjoying Kyunki…." Down but not out, he never gave up. Today, he is smiling with Sony's Jassi..., Sahara's Ruby Duby Hub Dub and films like Political Asylum and Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai. Meet Parmeet Sethi in a chat with Vickey Lalwani. Post 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', we didn't see much of you in films. Has television given you a better deal? I won't endorse that unless I try my hand at a sufficient number of films. Is it because you didn't get many films or... (Interrupts) That's not right. I have been offered many films, but I have been choosy. Maybe because I always had production and direction to fall back upon. My wife Archana has been involved with Archana Talkies, Archana Aaa Aha, Saamnewali Khidki, Hum Bhi To Hai Tumhare, Aasman Se Tapki, among others. I used to help in a lot of production and direction activities. So what made you take to acting again? I thought I would do something I could control. Production is a tough job. As a producer or director, virtually nothing- be it story or dates or money or reshoots or telecast dates- is in your hands. You have been nominated in the best actor category for Israeli Film Academy awards for his pivotal role in the Israeli film Sof Haolam Shmola (At the End of the World and Left). How does it feel? Great. The film deals with interactions between new immigrants from India and Morocco, placed in a development township. I play an Indian Jew who goes to Israel dreaming about a very rosy future but meets with lots of hardships, before I eventually settle down. I hope I get the award. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Are you flying to Israel for the award ceremony slated for 27 September? I can't say anything at the moment. My television and film assignments bind me here. Let's see how I am placed on D-day. Where is your character in Jassi... heading? I don't think even Tony and Deeya Singh know that. The channel (Sony) and the production house are constantly exchanging ideas. Are you going to resurface in Kyunki...? No. I opted out. I was not enjoying it. I was not in the main track and I didn't want to do a side track for long. Besides, there were lots of shooting and date problems when Smriti was pregnant. Actually, I did Kyunki... at the behest of Star Plus. You opted out of Star Plus' Saara Akaash too? Yup. They were facing many problems while shooting for the Air Force scenes, and maybe because of that, or either due to the feedback they received, they shifted the focus to Sai Deodhar and Sonal Sehgal. I was hardly having anything to do. Anybody could have done my role after that. Archana hasn't been seen on screen for a while too. What is she busy with? She is writing a film script. Why don't we see the two of you together in some show? We did Nehle Pe Dehla - a countdown show for Cinevistaas about seven years back. I will be thrilled if someone would cast us together now.
