A low down … Now that you are single will you be looking out for a girlfriend or a wife? When a relationship starts you cannot go ahead with a closed mindset. From meeting a person, to turning the same into companionship and love and then taking the eventual step of marriage does take some time. What one needs is sustenance. When do you plan to get married? Since marriage is the biggest commitment that you make, you should be confident about it. Furthermore it is just a social structure and there is no rule like you must get married if you are 30. It’s nice to have a social structure but you must not let it affect your life. So, it will happen when it has to. What are the things that you look out for in your partner? I want someone who is equal to me and has a life, passion and ambition of her own. Like, when two people are passionate about each other’s work, they do not take the other for granted, even if they respect their relationship. Though they contribute in each other’s journey, there is mutual respect. I think this is important in every relationship. Continue… There has to be some kind of an understanding. For example, if I do not answer my partner’s call, she should know that the reason of me not calling her back is because I am busy with my work. As an actor, I am always on the run and my working schedule is different. In fact, there are also times when I cannot move out of the character I am playing for a couple of hours. In such cases, I would want my partner to be understanding. So is this the reason why you broke up with Mouni? I would not like to talk about any specific person. Okay…moving on…getting all these things in a person might be difficult. Do you think it’s nicer to be single? No, I feel that a woman’s touch in man’s life is very important. A woman influences a man’s life immensely as she is softer and sensitive towards different things in life. But at the same time, it becomes important to have a woman who has a good taste of things. After all she will be mother to your children. Which kind of women are you usually attracted to? When you meet a pretty woman, you start talking, but what attracts me the most in a woman is a little spunk, intelligence and talent. In fact, it’s the complete personality package that attracts me. Earlier, I used to feel that looks are important, but now I feel even if a woman is not very pretty but is well dressed and confident of herself, it would work for me. Since I am an actor, she will constantly be looked upon if she is with me. Hence, she shouldn’t feel insecure in any way. Lastly, she needs to speak well even if she is not very pretty and immaculately dressed. Have you met such a girl yet? Not really. And I do not even want all of it. In fact, even if I meet a girl with just sixty percent of this I can work on the rest. But then it’s not easy to get even sixty. Since we work in this industry we meet similar kind of people. Hence it gets difficult to get in touch with the outside world. I do not know if I will ever end up meeting that one person who has these qualities because I can’t reach out to her. What reasons do you attribute to your previous relationships not working? As I said, I do not want to talk about any specific person I have been with. I think it’s mostly because of the kind of lives that we lead, there is a lot of pressure and work commitment. Therefore, at times it gets difficult to be around your partner and I have faced such issues. In spite of all this, I feel the faith and the sanctity of a relationship must be maintained. At times, relationships become so casual that disrespect sets in. Hence, I feel one must try and be friends with their partners for as long as your friends, you will be fair. But if you are just being a partner, your emotions get the worst of you. In most cases, anger does most of the talking. I think usually the expectations lead to issues. Why don’t we get upset with our friends? One must keep the expectations away as that helps keep a relationship simple. Does you star status come in way of your personal life? (smiles) I am a normal person just like the others. Let’s put things straight. I am a star when I am out in front of the media or on-screen, but when I am home, I am just Gaurav, not Gaurav the star. Hence, I would want my life partner to balance this with me. So are you ready to be in a relationship now? I am ready to be in a relationship as it’s been a while since I haven’t been seen with somebody in public. Don’t your parents pester you to get married? I have an elder sister and a younger brother and four kids in the family. In fact, the younger generation has brought the family together and there is this huge emotional connect. So, my parents have got busy with the kids but they do feel that I must get married. In fact, my marriage has become a joke in the family now. But they respect my decision as of now and they know whenever and whoever I get married to, I would have known her well. You have been in relationship more than just two times. But, only two of them were in news. Is there any particular reason behind it? Things happen in a particular way, I never slot things. I just go with the flow and do not stop any of my relationships from becoming public nor did I keep the others away. In fact, I do not think much about things when I am with somebody. I am there because mentally I have already reached a level where I do not fear of being in public. So it’s just that others did not come in the limelight because it never happened that way.
