We feel that life without poetry would be incomplete…your thoughts?

Absolutely. Poetry is all about rhythm and life is also full of rhythm. As an actor I have realised that you need to understand these rhythms to find more about life and make it more interesting.

Do you have interest in poetry and shayari?

Yes, completely.

Have you ever written/recited a poem or a shayari to profess your love for someone?

It’s been really long since I last fell in love, so recently have not really penned anything for a woman. But yes, two years back post the Nirbhaya incident I had written a poem which people really appreciated.

In this day and age – where people have lost interest in poetry and that kind of romance, how do you stay connected to shayari/poetry?

I think it all comes from the heart. If a person has interest in poetry they will stay connected. I am a creative person and keep myself updated with poetry through every possible means.

Who is your favorite shayar or poet?

Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Munshi Premchand top the list. Among the Bollywood lyricists, I enjoy Irshad Kamil’s work and I think Javed Akhtar and Gulzar are someone everyone admires.

Did you know that Tata Sky & Javed Akhtar saab have recently launched Actve Javed Akhtar service on Tata Sky to bring back the golden era of poetry? Your comments on it?

Yes, I am aware of it but since I don’t get time to watch TV, I haven’t got the chance to watch it yet. But I think the concept is really innovative and enlivening. When at leisure, I will definitely enjoy it.

Poetry is considered as the art of conveying what the heart feels? You express with your heart or mind?

Heart any day! My heart is always in my mind.

Javed Akhtar is a magician with the pen. Any favourite song or poem of his you remember/like?

I think he surely created magic with his words in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The poems were so beautiful.

Poetry is essentially spiritual. Are you a spiritual human being?

Yes I am but for me spirituality is all about being good with people.

Aaj Insaano ne hi insaaniyat ko sharmsar kar diya, mard banke jeena mere liya dushvaar kar dia,
Tujhse maafi kaise mangu yeh main nahi janta, tere saath jo hua usse main apni galti bhi manta,
Bhagwan tujhse main sirf ek veenti hu karta, jisse kehte huye main bilkul bhi nahi darta,
Agle janam mujhe sirf ladki ka hi janam dena, mard bana ke mujhe gaali na dena.
