Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) a 40 years old bachelor who decides to go to Goa with his friends instead of heading to Rameswaram to submerge his grandfather's ashes. Seeing his grandmother at railway station, in a massive hustle Rahul accidently books a single ticket on Chennai Express causing him to detour from his original plans. While on-board the Chennai Express, Rahul meets beautiful Meena (Deepika Padukone) and therein starts a journey that is about to change his life forever.
