RIP! Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor condole the death of Boxer Dingko Singh after a battle with cancer

Asian Games gold medallist boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh passed away on Thursday after a prolonged battle with cancer. Shahid Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Randeep Hooda mourned his demise and offered condolences to the family

MUMBAI: Asian Games gold medallist boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh passed away on Thursday at his home in Manipur’s Sekta village after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 42. His demise was a huge shock not just to the sports fraternity, but to all those across the nation whom he inspired. Soon after the heartbreaking news of his death surfaced, condolence messages came in from all corners. Bollywood actors Shahid Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Randeep Hooda mourned his demise and offered condolences to the family.

Shahid Kapoor took to his social media, and wrote that he will always remain a source of inspiration for the young generations. “Padma Shri Dingko Singh was one of the finest boxers, an award winning sports person who's brought glory to our nation several times. He will always remain a source of inspiration for the young generations. My sincere condolences to his dear ones. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Shahid. In 2019, Shahid Kapoor had said that he had the rights to make a film on Dingko Singh. He said that it was a film he really wanted to make. However, the project never materialized. Farhan Akhtar, who plays a boxer in his upcoming film Toofan, tweeted, “RIP Dingko Singh. You will always be remembered for the glory you brought our country in the ring. Deepest condolences to the family. #Boxer #AsianGamesGoldMedalist.”

Randeep Hooda paid a tribute, by sharing Dingko Singh’s picture on Twitter, and he wrote, “A boxing legend that inspired so many that continue to follow in his footsteps.. RIP N Dingko Singh He put hope back in the sport of Boxing by winning a Gold in Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998. A true Son of Manipur, India.”

Padma Shri Dingko Singh was one of the finest boxers, an award winning sports person who's brought glory to our nation several times. He will always remain a source of inspiration for the young generations.

Dingko Singh was reportedly diagnosed with liver cancer in 2017. He had also tested positive for Covid-19 last year but had recovered. Dingko Singh was bestowed the Arjuna Award in 1998 and was also conferred with Padma Shri in 2013.
