Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate (Star Plus) is a rage now. Though it managed to gain a modest TRP of 3TVR, yet the show has been the most talked about in the world of social networking. Its first episode highlighted the issue of female foeticide, second talked about child sex abuse and the latest one put light on the menace of dowry system in Indian weddings. Indian women from all across the quarter came in and shared the torture they have faced in the hands of their husbands and in-laws for their unending greed of money and wealth. One after another stories unfolded and we citizens were left ashamed with the fact of residing in progressive India. One such case was Komal Sethi who was left to die in USA by her husband for not meeting his financial demands. Hearts went out to Nishana from Madurai who not only underwent a cosmetic surgery to please her husband, but also succumbed to the dowry demands of her in-laws and ended up committing suicide. Paramjeet Kaur’s husband took money from her and fled away to Australia, only to send a divorce plea later. Another unique story was that Santosh Kumar from Bihar who was kidnapped by his in-laws in what is called the pakadwaa byaah system where a groom is forced to marry his bride in an effort to avoid paying the dowry. Santosh married Ruby and their marriage proved to be successful. Later part of the show struck a positive note and depicted the story of Rani Tripathi's sting operation that made viewers want to salute such a brave woman. The show finally ended with singer Sona Mahapatra singing a heart rendering song Rupaiya. All in all, the episode was another brilliant effort by Mr Perfectionist to draw attention to the evil customs of our society. After watching it, one thing came across pretty strong, all marriages are not made in heaven!!!
