Actors react to police encounter in Priyanka Reddy's case

MUMBAI: The suspects of Priyanka Reddy's rape case have been killed by the police in an encounter when they were trying to flee. While some are applauding this move by the police, there are some who feel that justice should have been served by the courts. TV actors give their take.

Karuna Pandey: I am damn happy that this happened and I think this is the right way to deal with this horrendous crime. I firmly believe that this human rights rubbish must be eliminated for such criminals because after indulging in such inhuman crimes, they are not humans anymore.

Vaishali Takkar: I think this action is required in every rape/murder case, once the suspect is proven guilty. If the criminals don’t think twice before committing such barbaric crimes, the law should not wait too. I don’t know and care if it was pre-planned by the police or they were really trying to flee, I’m just celebrating this sublime scene of some Bollywood movie brought to reality.

Heital Puniwala: I am happy that the killing has got justice to the victim but I would have been happier if the court would have taken this decision quickly and granted justice. The citizens are losing faith in our law and order, and people want instant justice as the process and time our law and order take to understand the case and give a fair decision leaves people disappointed. Until the time the courts make a decision, the culprits are out there roaming freely. That's how people get the strength to commit such crimes. Instead of the police doing such acts of instant justice, the courts should be doing the same.

Rohitashv Gour: Whatever the police did was right. The Nirbhaya case victim is no more with us yet the culprits are alive and it’s been years that we have been waiting for justice. Even if this act was planned, it was a good one. Such cases should not be sent to court, the decision should be made there and then. We should have rules and laws like there are in the UAE, the step taken by Telangana police is a great one.

Aastha Chaudhary: I am happy personally but I would have been happy if the fast track court would have taken this action. But we all know that we have loopholes in our judiciary system and this case would have been stretched for years. In previous cases also, the criminals have not been punished and I am happy that Telangana police took this step. I think the government should take a lesson from this and take decisions soon. Most of the people are happy with the decision.

Ankit Siwach: Whatever has happened, has happened for the best. Most of the time, and almost all the time, there is discontentment when it comes to the judiciary taking things in hand. Nobody knows how many years or decades may pass before justice is served if at all it is served. There is no punishment in our system which can equalize a crime as heinous as rape. There has to be a sense of fear among the criminals, be it a minor or be it an MLA. Just like the gangs of Mumbai were wiped off in the 90s to make the city as safe as it is now, there has to be this wave taken charge by the police to make the country safe for our families.
