Ashiesh Roy tears a ligament, still shoots for Jeannie Aur Juju

Ashiesh Roy
Ashiesh Roy's work platter is full, and the affable actor is loving every minute of his hectic schedule - even though he continues getting injured while shooting! The self confessed accident-prone actor has now seriously damaged his right knee, but that hasn't stopped him from shooting an energetic and fun-filled dance number for his serial Jeannie Aur Juju (SAB TV). "Oh! I'm a perpetual accident waiting for a place to happen!" declares the spirited actor, pointing to his heavily strapped knee. "If there's a glass door, chances are that I will walk into it. If there's an open manhole, I will most definitely fall right into it," laughs the irrepressible comic. Ashiesh hurt his knee while shooting for Shadaab Mirza's film Barkha, in which he plays a key character. He was shooting late at night outside a bar for a sequence which required his character to be bundled in a police van along with the heroine and her friend. "And of course, I had to open my mouth and suggest that the actor playing the police inspector should manhandle me a little, for authenticity. So he did, and sure enough, my knee hit the iron frame of the seat with a bang loud enough to be heard a quarter of a mile away.” Ashiesh's knee swelled up quickly, and worse still, he had to report for shooting at the Jeannie Aur Juju set at 7 am, where he was required to dance to a peppy, upbeat song. "Well, frankly speaking, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry," Roy states. "While my knee painfully resembled a ripe plum, the opportunity of dancing to the Anurag Basu/Ranbir Kapoor gem Faatafaati was irresistible too.” So, despite the agony of his injured knee, Ashiesh went ahead and danced, emoted and lip-synched his way to a standing ovation from his co-stars and crew. It was only after the entire song was canned and Ashiesh collapsed on stage that everyone came to know about his injured knee. Later, an x-ray revealed that he had torn a ligament, and has been advised complete bed rest for two weeks. And is he resting? "Of course not!" retorts Ashiesh. "When you're part of a successful show like Jeannie Aur Juju, you don't want to sit out for two weeks! Besides, I'm no prima donna - the show must go on." And the hard working actor's dedication seems to be paying off too, as it is reported that he has just been signed to play a pivotal role in a big banner film starring Emraan Hashmi, Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon.
