MUMBAI: Actress Rupali Ganguly is a popular television personality, who is serving the Indian entertainment industry for a very long time, and has garnered immense popularity as a household star-figure, primarily for her marvellous works in television and theatre.

Hailing from Calcutta (present-day Kolkata), telly actress Rupali Ganguly is the daughter of the late Anil Ganguly, who was a famous Bollywood director and screenwriter and had also managed a few projects in the Bengali entertainment industry. Meanwhile, her brother Vijay Ganguly is also notable in the same industry as an actor-producer.

At the age of 7, she had first embarked upon the world of showbiz by debuting on the silver-screen for the Bollywood film Saaheb (1985), starring actors Anil Kapoor, Rakhee Gulzar, Amrita Singh, Utpal Dutt, Biswajit, Vijay Arora, Deven Verma, A. K. Hangal and Dilip Dhawan; followed another film named Balidan, which was also directed by her father. 

In 2000, Rupali first debuted on the small-screen with the Hindi show Sukanya, wherein she played the titular lead role. Thenafter, she went on to enact various poignant characters (even antagonists) in popular Hindi TV serials. She gained immense popularity for playing the parallel lead of Monisha in the Hindi sitcom Sarabhai VS Sarabhai for her on-screen comic role and those sarcastic banters with her show's mother-in-law Maya Mazumdar Sarabhai, who was portrayed by veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah.

She has also participated in many reality shows like Bigg Boss 1 (2006), the dance reality show - Zara Nachke Dikha (along with Karishma Tanna, Jennifer Winget & Mouni Roy in 2008) and Colors TV's extreme reality game show, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 2 (2009).

On 15 January 2016, Rupali lost her dear father and Bollywood director Anil Ganguly, who left for his heavenly abode at the age of 82 post-suffering from a brief illness. She always considered him as her life-anchor and always keeps him in her prayers.

This is definitely the breakthrough role that helped her garner massive household fame for portraying the extremely relatable story of every submissive Indian housewives out there through Anupamaa's life. Her performance as Anupamaa and the show's plot has moved the audience a lot and is even lauded by the critics. Even her co-stars are nailing their respective characters therein.
