Check out the Hindi TV actresses who are currently ruling over the television industry

Read on to know about the lead telly actresses who are currently dominating the television industry by playing eminent characters on the small-screen...

MUMBAI: With innumerable shows going off and coming on-air, we have seen the emergence, establishment and dominance of many new faces over the television industry within a very short span of time.

What's even more interesting to note is that more rebellious characters are being introduced on-screen and as usual, each of them are primarily being portrayed by the TV actresses who are gracefully nailing their on-screen roles. Interestingly, many female newcomers are taking over the industry like they were born for the spotlight.

Owing to feminism-centric shows like Anupamaa, Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani, Imlie, Molkki, Chhoti Sardarni, Gum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Mei, etc. many new female leads are displaying their creative and well-balanced acting chops on the small-screen, proving that the TV industry won't ever run out of talents.

The commendable part about today's on-screen female character's role is the lack of compromise for pleasing their on-screen male counterparts and breaking the ice for the latter in the crudest way possible to give them a taste of the reality-check. No matter which role and for what show, the objective of the plot of many current Hindi TV shows and that of their female protagonists is of maintaining the 'equilibrium of empowerment' amid the male and female leads.

From defending their point of views to pointing out societal crisis in order to make life easy for both the male and female characters, our on-screen female protagonists are beautifully displaying their character's transformation-driving energy which aims at eradicating injustice and inequality on the grounds of empowerment, just as it should be in reality.

Rupali Ganguly is currently portraying the pivotal and titular role of Anupamaa in Star Plus' Anupamaa. Her on-screen character is a pious hom-maker who silently aspires to be a dancer, but has compromised on her dreams for becoming a perfect-homemaker. On the other hand, her husband Vanraj indulges in an illicit affair with his office colleague Kavya and belittles Anupamaa over petty issues. After learning about the fore-mentioned facts, the way Anupamaa has outshone her own standards by portraying righteous doses of valour and courage has got the audience hooked to their TV screens, as if her story is their personal problem. The extraordinary story of an ordinary character is massively being rejoiced nationally, such that the show is topping the TRP chart for over weeks now. [[{"fid":"15648599","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"2":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":607,"width":418,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"2"}}]]

Extremely popular television hottie Shivangi essayed Naira Goenka's role over 5 years now in television industry's longest-running show till date - Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Currently, she's portraying the role of her doppleganger named Sirat, who is a boxer. Right from her first on-screen appearance in Rishikesh to her current role as Sirat, Shivangi is extremely television-friendly, owing to the way viewers reciprocate to her screen-presence in every way possible. One major reason behind Shivangi's immense TV based popularity despite her sizzling on-screen chemistry with co-star Mohsin (on-screen Kartik) is her on-screen versatility. 3. Sumbul Touqeer Khan

[[{"fid":"15648609","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"3":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":750,"width":500,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"3"}}]]

Actress Sumbul portrays the titular role in Star Plus' Imlie. Her on-screen character is pretty naive and simpler than her other co-characters on the show, owing to the fact that she belongs from a remote rural clan. She is famous for the way she's winning the hearts of the common civilians of the urban society with her basic simplicity and her act of forgiveness and benevolence against the atrocities practiced against her makes her too sweet for the audience, such that they can empathise with her pain.

4. Ayesha Singh

[[{"fid":"15648619","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"4":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":900,"width":1200,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"4"}}]]

APC Virat Chavan's wife Sayi's role is played by actress Ayesha Singh in Star Plus' Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. Her on-screen character had to make a huge sacrifice by following his father's last wish of her getting married to his student Virat. She is a rebellious girl who not only aspires to be a doctor, but also turns loggerheads for all the evil eyes lurking around her and her loved ones. She's impulsive and never waits for doing the righteous task by giving no scope for injustice to win against goodness. She dreams of being independent and empowered. Her straight-forwardness on-screen has grabbed everybody's attention.

5. Sriti Jha

[[{"fid":"15648629","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"5":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":600,"width":600,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"5"}}]]

Sriti's on-screen character of Pragya is the perfect example of 'calm but determined' as she's headstrong when it comes to safeguarding her loved ones, but makes her move in silence. From making innumerable sacrifices for her on-screen partner Abhi and her daughters - Prachi and Rhea to raising daughter Prachi as a single mother by facing the wrath of the society, Pragya's benevolence and righteous determination has won over the audience's hearts.

6. Shraddha Arya

[[{"fid":"15648639","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"6":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":600,"width":600,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"6"}}]]

Shraddha's character of Preeta in Zee TV's Kundali Bhagya was very much similar to that of KumKum Bhagya's Pragya. However, Preeta underwent a massive character development and transformation once she started raising her voice in her own defence and is hell-bent to defeat the evil souls who try harming her closed ones. She's also not settling down for any crap that's offered in her way and can cross all limits to express her love for Karan and to keep him safe from all lingering dangers. An overall ideal TV bahu is always everybody's favourite to watch.

7. Sneha Jain

[[{"fid":"15648649","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"7":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":928,"width":1358,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"7"}}]]

Sneha's on-screen character of Gehna (the maid) has shattered a major societal stigma through his show Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2 by marrying her owner's family's son. Despite facing severe backlash and hatred from her in-laws and the society at large, Gehna whole-heartedly respects her marriage and is truly devoted towards the service of her in-laws and hubby Anant. However, she does not give in to bullies and knows how to fight back against them under the guidance of her husband Anant. Her whole-hearted devotion towards him and their mutual respect as a marital couple has helped broaden the realms of reality for many common viewers of this show, as to how servants are no less from others in terms of deserving respect.

8. Debattama Saha

[[{"fid":"15648659","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"8":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":1629,"width":1976,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"8"}}]]

Debattama portrays the role of a rebellious and bright student Anokhi in Star Plus' Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani, who eloped away from home to pursue higher studies, as her father wanted to get her married. On coming to the city, she encounters Shaurya, who is one of her college's board members and has a typical chauvinist attitude towards girls. Hence, the way she gets into conflicts against him, which are literally shattering down his ego slowly and steadily, such that he is expressing his sensitive side these days by letting go of his past misconceptions and grudges makes Anokhi an influential character for many viewers. Her rebellious nature sparks the need for empowerment for most girls.

9. Priyal Mahajan

[[{"fid":"15648669","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"9":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":700,"width":337,"class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"9"}}]]

Molkki as a show's title refers to an age-old Indian custom of marrying-off young girls to old men for the exchange of money. As the show's female lead, Priyal's on-screen character of Purvi Singh is an inspiration for many middle-class households, owing to the way she's struggling her way out to get baseless practices and rituals like 'Molkki' eradicated from their society.
