Dialect coach on the sets of Sony Entertainment's Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye

MUMBAI: Any period drama is incomplete without a touch of authenticity. Keeping this integral aspect in mind, the makers of Sony Entertainment Television's upcoming 1957-set drama Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, hired a special dialect coach to train the lead actors to speak fluently in Punjab and prounancation of the Urdu Laheza  correctly.

The show is set in 1947, Lahore, in pre-Partition India. It narrates the story of three young girls - Amrit, Vashma and Radha, and brings forth their dreams, hope, aspirations and tryst with newfound love -- all at the brink of Independence.

In an effort to ensure that the actors get the tone and tenor right for their characters, the coach trained them to speak Punjabi with Urdu in a fluent way, as people of that age would have done in that era. The coach helped them get a command over the  Punjabi and Urdu Laheza.

It was a learning experience for the artistes.

Gracy Goswami, who plays the role of Amrit in the show, says, "The diction and language sessions with the coach have been very enriching and useful to lend more depth to the character, and in getting closer to the era gone by."

Zaan, who has been cast as Randheer, adds, " The charm of a period drama lies in being transported to an era through the audio-visual form. As actors, we are fortunate to be working on a show which has got its look in sync with the pre-Independence times, and having a dialect coach has ensured the show also sounds right and authentic.'

Watch Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, from 25th January, Monday to Friday at 9 PM, only on Sony Entertainment Television
