Discard 90 days payment cycle and 12 hours shifts to promote mental health among actors: Romit Raj

Romit’s suggestion to promote mental health among television actors

Television actor Romit Raj believes that in order to promote mental health among the actors from the television industry, the 90 days payment cycle as well as the 12 hours shift rule should be called off.

In an exclusive chat with TellyChakkar.com, Romit said, “If an actor is working with a production house from say January, he will only be paid by May which is a long period of time. How can actors survive without money for so many months? Plus, there’s so much mental stress with a 12 hours shift. If you add up commuting time, an actor spends more than 15-16 hours away from home in order to earn for his livelihood for which he is paid after around 3-4 months. Well, a few producers don’t even pay. They abscond after making a flop show and the services of the actors in such situation goes in vain without getting paid. Many producers take the money from the channel and keep it in banks with fixed deposits and let the cast and crew suffer”.

He added, “It’s not only about the actors. The editors work in a closed little compartment for around 12-14 hours, many develop issues related to eye sight, vertigo etc”.

Romit also believes that channel should act responsibly and not grant shows of extremely small and incompetent producers. He said, “Channels should also probe and think twice before giving a show to producers and refrain giving shows to producers with no financial standing because in turn it would only affect the hardworking cast and crew of the show”.
