MUMBAI: In the latest episode of Lock Upp, Ali Merchant got the cue for his secret, which is ‘Divorce’. Ali pressed the buzzer first and signed the contract to reveal his secret about his divorce from his second wife Anam Merchant.

He said: “I always wanted to get married and settle down. I got into an arranged marriage in 2016. In December 2021, we got separated. The girl I got into an arranged marriage with, belonged to an orthodox family. I began DJ-ing in 2015. A career in nightlife, extreme exposure in concerts – it is a very difficult industry for a Muslim to be in.”

“When I got married, I was getting a few shows. I wasn’t getting acting projects. I had a few small businesses. She never wanted me to be in the nightlife. She wanted me to be an actor or a businessman. I would ask her ‘Why can’t you b proud of me?’ She wasn’t too happy. Our philosophies didn’t match,” he further added.

Ali asserted “People knew about my marriage but not about the divorce.” when Kangana asked after Sara he got married again and nobody knew about your marriage and divorce.”

Ali’s former first wife Sara was also in the show. Ali many times during conversation and fights in the house had indirectly shared “Wo nahi hai abhi”, hinting at his second marriage.
