MUMBAI: Gurpreet Bedi played the role of Keerti on the show ‘Dharampatni’. The fans have loved the chemistry between Ravi and Keerti, and Keerti’s painful death in the show has been very hard for the fans to process. They are very curious about what is going to happen in the show.

Gurpreet Bedi is known for portraying Reeva Noon in the web series Dil Hi Toh Hai in 2018, which was created by Ekta Kapoor and first aired on Sony Entertainment Television. She appeared in the Ekta Kapoor production Bang Baang in 2021 as Monisha.

TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about her journey in the show, the kind of roles she would like to play, going back for flashbacks, and more.

You were always aware about the fate of your character, did you have to convince yourself as well that Keerti was here to stay, and was that process or difficult?

It is funny because I knew from day one that this character will not be there after a point, and initially when we started shooting, it was in the back of my head that I would be here for this much duration. Eventually, it will come to an end. I love this character, and the reason why I said yes to it is because I found that there was a certain kind of connection to the character that I felt, which I have expressed time and again. So, for me to say yes to this character didn't take much time because I felt that connection. But, I was a little apprehensive because I knew she was going to die and I did not know how the audiences would react to it. There was so much build up and this character dies all of sudden. I was worried if I would be able to make any sort of connection in a short time, because that is what the makers wanted as well. They wanted everyone to fall in love with Keerti, so when she dies, it comes as a shock and an creates an impact. It was definetly an responsibility to play such a character that does not have much time, but I wanted to play it right and give my heart and soul into it. But while shooting, I somehow forgot that I was supposed to die, and my connection with the charcter, Ravi and the cast became so strong that when it happened, it hit me hard. The makers must have liked the chemistry as well, which is why they extended it as much they could, because I think Keerti was supposed to die before. I fell in love with Keerti while playing her, so it was easy to get under her skin, but difficult to get out.

Is it easy to switch on and switch off emotions as an actor, and is that usually your process?

I used to think that I was very good at these things, because till now every show that I have done, I was like, let’s do what we have to do. The on-off is easy; as soon as they action, I could do it, even the crying scenes. When they say cut, I go back to my normal, happy self. That was the case, but I think I felt Keerti a bit too much, and I deeply got into her skin. This is because, I have been saying, she is very close to me. It becomes a little difficult to draw the lines, that the feeling needs to end there. But specifically with this character, the journey is what made it so special. I think because of the time crunch as well, it was difficult to get out and I brought Keerti home.

What would you like to say to your fans and to the fans of Keerti?

To the fans of me, I want to thank them for loving me for who I am. I keep getting messages saying that we loved Keerti but we love Guru more. Guru is, of cousre, my nickname and I know that they also personally kind of connect with me with the stories I put, the carxiness and the silliness that I keep doing. So, I want to thank them for loving me and my crazniess. To Keerti’s fans, I want to say honestly, that i just want to bow down to them for the messages and love I was bombarded with, everytime I opened social media. Also, for them to love my chemistry with Fahmaan and the cast, is just very overwhelming and unexplainable. Initially, I was in two minds about whether or not I should do this role, but now I am like, thank god I did it! So, thank you for everything.

Gurpreet also played the role of Sana Shaikh in ZEE5's Qubool Hai 2.0, which also starred Surbhi Jyoti and Karan Singh Grover. She was last seen as Keerti in the show, 'Pyaar Ke Saat Vachan Dharampatni’. The show also stars Fahmaan Khan, Kritika Yadav and Akash Jagga in pivotal roles.
