Giaa Maanek winning hearts in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa

The beautiful and graceful Giaa Maanek is winning lovely comments and votes in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. We caught up with her between her tough rehearsals and found out what makes this Colors dance show tick for her. “Till now Jhalak has been superb, every week, I have learnt something new about myself. If for one episode I am doing Samba, in the next I am performing a Kathak, to be followed by international Radha in western costumes. The dance forms are as different as chalk and cheese. And the most challenging part is that I don’t get more than three days to rehearse for each.”

Among all the performances she has done till date, Giaa rates the aerial act (Radha) as the most closest to her heart. “I am scared of heights. I also had no idea about harnesses; I had only seen heroes coming down from them at award functions. Learning to dance for eight long hours was really painful.”

So what made you say yes to this challenge thrown by Remo D’Souza? “I always believe in trying to do what I think I can’t, no matter if I fail. Here, I will be honest and admit that I was surprised by my own performance which fetched a perfect thirty.”

Furthermore, Giaa is full of praises for the three judges. “Remo checks for technical flaws, Madhuri Dixit evaluates the expressions (I always get compliments from her for the same) and Karan Johar rates the overall concept of the performance. All these three greats have together covered all the important facets which a dance competition requires, hence they are perfect for the job.”

Here Giaa adds that she looks forward to criticism that the judges give for this will help her to get better with each passing round. “I make it a point not to repeat the same mistake ever again.”

Giaa, who is a self confessed non-fitness freak, says, “I had never stepped in a gym before and the last one month has been a really painful experience for me since I have hurt myself on the head, toes, waist etc. All said and done, dance is a form of exercise which you do after putting on the music. I had to immediately start off with 4/5 hours of rehearsals. But it has been fun for I have successfully shed six kilos.”

Finally, Giaa thanks her fans for all their love and support, “It is only because of you I am here. I don’t want to take your love for granted hence only vote for me if you feel I am good. God bless.”
