A grand wedding in the offing in Zee TV's Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya

Waseem Mushtaq and Niketa Agrawal
Lavish wedding costumes and heavy ornaments are not restricted only to films of the Rajshris. Our Telly tube weddings celebrations are no less in matching up to the perfection and grandeur of big screen. They go to great lengths to make a wedding ceremony look exclusive to the viewer. Marriages in India are marked by a lot of customs and traditions that are religiously followed till this day. And in scripting these for television, one gets an opportunity to make it a visual delight for audiences and at the same time set new fashion trends. The next TV show that is about to set trends with a grand wedding is Zee TV’s Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. As seen so far, Akshat (Waseem Mushtaq) and Arpita (Niketa Agrawal) are all set to get married and the makers (Director’s Kut Production) are leaving no stone unturned to make it look beautiful. Some of the fabrics used for Arpita’s elaborate lehenga have been brought directly from Jodhpur and other cities known for handiwork that has lent them authenticity. The costumes for the entire wedding track have been designed by renowned television stylist Nikhat Mariyam Neerusha. This intricately designed lehenga cost approximately Rs.5 lakh and the entire outfit weighs 25 kgs. The lehenga is the highlight of all the outfits created for the wedding sequence as it has been crafted by expert jodhpuri workers. It took almost a month to make the bride’s costume. Keeping in mind the Marwari culture, original gotta patti, zardosi and kashab work have been used on the lehenga making it as exquisite as possible. The lehenga looks resplendent and the intricate embroidery, stone work, heavy embellishments, heavy border and the falling dupatta makes Arpita look like a royal princess, oozing out panache and poise. Observes Neerusha, “My philosophy is very simple, it has to be impressive and stylish. I love the Indian craftsmanship. After having done a lot of research, I finally designed Arpita’s bridal wear with a variety of fabrics to give it a rich and elegant look. Right from the colours, fabric to the embroidery, care has been taken to keep the authenticity of the Marwari culture. A lot of handiworks from Jaipur, Lucknow, Kashmir and Kolkata have gone into the ensemble and it took over a month to get it ready. The colours of the bridal wear are ivory, pale jade, bright pink, mustard, red and gold to muted browns, sapphire, beige and their likes. The lehenga studded with crystals and handmade gota will make a lot of heads turn. The rich quality of these costumes have never been seen before on Indian television screens and it will be remembered for a long time." “Indian weddings are very bright events, filled with rituals and celebrations and unvaryingly checked with amazing ceremonies and spectacle. And that is the reason they are the most watched on television across the world. An Indian wedding is an infusion of cultures, a celebration of family and friends, and a natural setting that can take anyone’s breath away, especially the gorgeous Indian wedding dresses that add to the style of the whole function. It’s a designers dream to put together such a collection like we’ve done for Arpita’s wedding and I for one enjoyed it thoroughly,” she adds. An overjoyed Niketa quips, “This is definitely a dream wedding for me as speaking personally red is my favourite color and it is just a sheer coincidence that without knowing my favourite color, Neerusha designed a splendid red outfit for me. I always wanted my wedding outfit to be in this color. I feel like a princess!" Actor Waseem echoed a similar sentiment as he observes, "All I can say is that this is going to be a visual spectacle for the audience.” Don’t miss this grand wedding!
