Mayank Kalra, the good looking and well built guy, has suddenly become a darling of fairer sex, thanks to his good looks and cute attitude in Channel V’s Relationship Status: It’s Complicated (Sunshine Productions). The actor who has been part of a number of TV commercials in his three years career in modelling has made television debut with the above show. “I have always wanted to start off with a youth show and this show being a seasonal is a fresh concept in our country. Personally, I really enjoy such projects and am a huge fan of Friends and The Big Bang Theory. In television you hardly get to do a performance oriented role and especially in comedy, so I feel I have been lucky with this show.” Talking about his character Mayank quips, “My character Rocky is someone who is adorable and a stud until he opens his mouth (laughs). He is the Indian male version of an American blonde. Rocky is a typical Jatt and I have come across many such people in real life, but I am very different from Rocky.” Working with a young team has also proved a boon for him as he quips, “It’s just fabulous and since our wavelength also matches, it gets easier working with them. Also since Aru (K Verma), who plays Bappa, has been a friend for the last three years, it’s fun on the sets all along. We are almost like Jai-Veeru, completely inseparable. I also feel blessed that I am working with such an awesome production house. It’s surely a good kick start to my career (smiles).” Mayank has also started feeling the taste of success as he shares, “I was on my way for the shoot recently in a rickshaw eating my Subway sandwich to glory when suddenly three guys started shouting ‘Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!’ I was pleasantly surprised and it really gave me a great sense of satisfaction that I am on the right path.” The handsome hunk is also a fitness freak. “I really spend a lot of time in the gym and I am also a lot into dancing. Whenever I get time I spend my time running, doing gymnastics and parkour in the nearby park. Being an actor you should be fit and always raring to go.” Since the show is about relationships, we quizzed Mayank on his idea of romance, “Oh, don’t even ask it. I am really bad at such stuff. I am a very straight forward person and that probably doesn’t work in today’s world. As for love, it is in doing little things for your loved one rather than just shouting from the roof top about it.” So what kind of a girl would he like to date? “I would like a girl with whom I can have a good conversation from dawn to dusk. I hate a one sided conversation and would thus always prefer a girl with some brains.” Mayank is so adamant about his career goals that he does not even wish to have an alternate career, as he says, “I believe that you should believe in your dreams and chase them. And having a backup plan comes only when you aren’t sure of your goal. I believe that will make you weaker as a professional. I have always wanted to be an actor and that’s the only thing I will do till my last breath. And if you are good at your job, nothing or no one can stop you from achieving your dreams.” That surely is a great thought young lad! Wish you success.
