B R Chopra and Ravi Chopra’s epic series Mahabharat which was aired on DD a decade back wowed the audiences. Be it the crowded lanes of Mumbai, or the busy by-lanes of Kolkata, everyone rushed back home to catch the glimpse of their favourite stars who became Gods on earth. The series till date remains as one of the most important milestones on Indian television. When we talk about the characters on the show, none can forget the chalak and chatur Shakuni mama. Played by Gufi Paintal, Shakuni mama emerged as a legendary figure renowned for his cunning nature and smart tactics. And now, Imagine has provided viewers the opportunity to watch their favourite Shakuni mama weave magic all over again in their latest offering, Dwarkadheesh: Bhagwan Shree Krishn. Yes, you have read right. Gufi Paintal is seen playing Shakuni mama again in the show. “It’s great to be back as Shakuni and especially with a lot other younger people around me,” said Gufi. He is happy with the positive feedback he has received from the masses till now and hopes to do better in the future. Furthermore, he informed us that he was surprised when he was asked to play Shakuni in Dwarkadheesh, as many mythological shows were launched after Mahabharat but nobody approached him before. Gufi took a trip down memory lane and said that the role of Shakuni helped him experiment with himself back then. In fact, the actor still likes to experiment even today. Apart from being an actor, he has also tried his hands in directing. He prefers directing movies over TV shows as it is less time consuming. His recent directorial venture on the state of Chhattisgarh, Mahatari is yet to release but Gufi is excited about it. The talented actor has been working continuously all these years. When asked if he doesn’t get tired, the actor shot back, “I have to run my kitchen so I can’t sit at home. Furthermore, I want to die with my boots on." We hope Gufi manages to recreate the same magic as the good old days!
