Adding an additional letter to a name or a show??€s title is common in Indian television. However, this one does come as a surprise. Bindass??€ stand-up comedy show Lagegi is now rechristened as Has Ley India.
So what prompted this change of name? Actor-turned-producer Roshan Abbas explains, ??€?“Honestly speaking, we didn??€â„?t want this change of name but we felt that this name was merely appealing to the youth. We want to reach out to the masses.??€Â?
Doesn??€â„?t the word Lagegi sound obscene? Roshan chides, ??€?“I wouldn??€â„?t call it obscene but it definitely is one that??€â„?s on the edge. At the end of the day, the remote control is operated by the entire family. A youngster wouldn??€â„?t feel all that comfortable watching a program with an edgy title in front of is parents.??€Â?
Roshan denies that this decision was forced upon by the channel. He states that it was collective decision.
But will the change in name bring about a change in fortunes too? A source informs, ??€?“That??€â„?s one of the reasons for changing the name. The channel wants to present the show in a new and better format.??€Â?
With its earlier name, the show didn??€t tickle many ribs. Now that it??€s called Has Ley India, we wonder whether there will be a turnaround.
