MUMBAI: It's not always a hunky-dory ride for an aspiring actor to become a superstar overnight. Apart from getting the right PR team, stylist and MUA, you also need a supportive family who will stand by you through your lows more than your highs. The process of becoming a star begins by giving numerous auditions and then getting rejected a couple of times before getting that big break. 

While some celebs like Deepika Padukone received complete family support when she announced her interest in films, there are a few actors who didn't get any support from their families. 

Hina Khan recently spoke about her journey of coming from a conservative Kashmiri family to becoming one of the most famous faces of the Indian entertainment industry. She began her career as a TV star when she was just 20. During her chat with HoB, she went on to say that her parents were against the idea of her joining showbiz. So much so that a few of her relatives cut ties with them. She further said, "It took me weeks to tell Papa. He was livid. Mom’s friends & relatives cut ties with us. But by then, my serial had gained popularity. After weeks of cajoling, Papa said, ‘you can continue only if you complete your studies.’.".

Mallika Sherawat won the audience over with her performance in Murder. She's been a part of showbiz for almost 16 years but is still remembered for her performance in the 2004 release. Mallika hails from a small village in Haryana. Mallika's real name is Reema Lamba. She changed her first name to Mallika and took her mother's maiden name, Sherawat as a tribute to the support she received from her. But on the other hand, Mallika's family relations were strained when she decided to enter the film industry. It took many years for them to come to terms with Mallika's filmy world.

Kangana Ranaut has always spoken about her turbulent relationship with her father. She quoted herself as 'stubborn and rebellious' as a child. Her relatives were unhappy when she announced her entry into Bollywood. She even refused to take any financial assistance from her father that led to Kangana having to survive on 'break and aachar.' It was reported that Kangana reconciled with her family only after the release of Life in a... Metro.

For the unaware, Ameesha Patel is a gold medalist in Economics from Tufts University in Massachusetts. It was earlier reported that her parents weren't on board with her joining a filmy career. But she took permission after returning from the USA and eventually joined a theatre group before making an entry into showbiz with her father's classmate Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Na...Pyaar Hai.
