A page from the personal diary of Rucha Gujrati

I was about six years old when I had bagged a role in this famous show called Tak Dhina Dhin which used to air on DD1. I was very excited with the idea of working in a serial and told all my friends about it. I myself was not very aware about the film and television industry, but the only thing that excited me was that I would be on TV.

Tak Dhina Dhin was a show for kids where we all used to play characters like a rabbit, flowers, fish, sun, moon and so on. I was selected to play the flower’s role. I could not sleep the entire night due to the excitement and was eager to go on the sets. I kept awake with imaginary thoughts about what would happen, what I would wear and all such things that plague a young mind.

The next day I reported on the sets with my parents, but as soon as I reached there I developed cold feet. Off-screen I was so bubbly, mischievous, fun loving but on the sets I was quiet, worried and nervous. Everybody tried to make me comfortable but nothing worked.

It was then that my co-actor Pooja Madan who played a rabbit came to me and started talking. She was so friendly that in a couple of hours we became best friends and soon got along like a house on fire. People around us used to shout at us to keep quiet and concentrate on our work.

I worked for two-three episodes and got a cheque of Rs 5500 which I gave to my mom. I was so happy with the fact that I would be seen on TV that I told everyone who met me to watch the show.

Later around 7 years ago I did an ad for Livon hair potion and for that I was paid Rs 1600. Both of these incidents are the most memorable ones in my life and I still get emotional when I think about it.
