After being a part of reality shows like Bigg Boss, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Desi Girls, Monica Bedi is back on the small screen with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s (SLB) Saraswatichandra on Star Plus. The actress is pretty excited about her role, as she tells us, “I am very happy and excited about the entire show for it’s SLB who is making it.” When asked the reason as to why she decided to make her debut in a fiction show so late in her career, she informs, “I wasn’t aware of the fact that the television industry has become this big in India. Plus, I wasn’t even offered a role like this before. When SLB narrated the character to me, it sounded to be very different and challenging. Plus, there are only two people in the industry who present their actors in style and they are SLB and YRF. What I like of SLB is that actually he gets into every detail of things.” Does this mean SLB actually selected your clothes on the show? “Yes, he actually gets into every detail. In fact when I was talking to my designer the other day, he said, “Sanjayji ko is hi colour ka duppata chahiye. So, you know the kind of detailing he has a track on,” she recounts. Were you confident that you’d be able to play a negative role on screen having earlier played the sweet girl in films? “I wasn’t. In fact I asked Sanjayji if he thought that I looked cruel enough to play a negative character, to which he said that he wanted someone with a soft face, sweet voice and sharp brain. As a matter of fact, they are also planning to show my (character’s) younger days. So, he felt that I fit the bill perfectly,” Monica avers. When asked about life before Bigg Boss, the actress avers, “It was tough then, as people thought that I should have settled in some small city and never got back in the showbiz. But then Bigg Boss happened and things changed. People got to see the real side of me and everybody came up to support me.” Furthermore, talking about her personal life, she observes, “I stay here with my mom and three pets. I have two dogs of which one is a Mudi while the other is Yorkshire Terrier. I also have a parrot. I love my pets a lot as they have this unconditional love for me. They are also my stress busters.” What about getting into a relationship in real life? “Right now, my focus is completely on work as I am also in talks for some Bollywood projects. So, I am enjoying being single. But, then I do believe in love too. If any relation is in my destiny, it will happen,” she hastens to add.
