The man with various shades Rajesh Khera, who has played characters like Maddy (Jassi Jaisi Koi Nhi), Sanam (Aasman Se Aage) and Maharani (Uttaran), will soon don the hat of a serious character of Mahatma Gandhi for a documentary. Sharing some information on the same, the talented actor said, “The docu film is on Gandhi following naturopathy and believing in making your body strong to face any illness. The film will share about the importance of health and the makers want to establish the objective through a known and loved face of Gandhi.” With the actor getting to play the young and old version of Gandhi we asked how difficult it was to play it. “See being an historical character, the only reference that we have is through books and movies. And with the visual medium being so strong, you have to enact the role well so as not to disappoint the fans of Gandhi the movie and Ben Kingsley. He had played the character so well that you actually are scared of comparisons.” “Thankfully physically I have the body structure that matches Gandhi and with the help of makeup and a bit of prosthetic we could manage to pull off the character. But then yes, the challenge was to bring the purity in the character. Being a different person in nature from Gandhi, that was the only challenge but here comes the job of an actor. Thankfully I did well with the role,” smiled Rajesh. So how much did he relate to Gandhi and his teachings? “Of course I follow his principles although I can never have so much patience like him. Although I do believe that one should never do injustice nor should tolerate it upon themselves. You should always fight for your right and bring about a change.” And finally when we asked him on what kind of roles does he enjoy the most Rajesh quipped, “I think it is a culmination of various things. A good script is of course a must followed by a great team- actors, directors, everyone. I try to do equal justice to all my work and therefore enjoy every role.” Well said Rajesh!
