Actor Rinki Singhvi is thrilled with the feedback her play, Ananya, has got from the audience. The actor, who plays the role of Priyanka, Ananya’s best friend in the play, says that she loved her role from the start. “What I liked the most about it is that it has a standing of its own. A lot of times, a friend's role can come across as a side-kick but Priyanka's character has been mindfully written and has been given its due credit. She plays a very important role in Ananya's journey of overcoming a huge setback in her life. In fact, at one point, when everything and everyone in Ananya's life is falling apart, Priyanka is the only one who stands by her like a rock. She is full of life, sensible, mature, positive and a very good friend. I am sure you will all be able to relate to the beautiful friendship Ananya and Priyanka share because we all have that one friend who stands by us through everything,” she says. The play has been adapted in Gujarati and Marathi in the past and had done exceedingly well. However, this did not put any pressure on Rinki. “I think it is encouraging and motivating to be part of something that has already been a superhit. It is like you are already one step in the right direction even before you've started working on it. I have never had the pressure of comparisons because I feel two people can add their own essence to the same character and they can both be good too. But I do feel the pressure of performing well and giving my best which might not happen sometimes considering it is a live show. There can be technical glitches, or you might not be in the right frame of mind or something else. Then it keeps haunting me till I get to do it right in the next show,” she says. The actor has been seen in many plays such as Outer Dilli and Arth, and says that where acting is concerned, films and plays are quite different. “I think the major difference only lies in being in front of the camera and a live audience. In front of the camera, whether it is a film, a web show or TV, the approach and experience are almost the same. It might just vary a bit depending on the scale of the project. You have the chance of a retake, a chance to take a break in case you snap out of the character. But in theatre, once the show is on, the next 90mins you have got to live it. There is no chance of a retake. You have to be super focussed to walk through anything that might go wrong. But at the same time, theatre gives you second chances in terms of being able to better the same thing. You can find so much more in the same scene, in the same line and be so much better by the time you reach your 50th show. But on camera, once the show or the film is shot and is out, there is no redoing it. It is going to remain like that forever,” says Priyanka, who has been part of TV shows such as Jhalli Anjali and P.S. I Hate You.
