MUMBAI: Varun Sood became the youngest gang leader of Roadies Revolution when he replaced Raftaar. Moreover, he reached the finale. He headed a group of young participants on the reality show and his team member Jayant battled Nikhil Chinapa's team in the finale. In an interaction with a media portal, he shared his excitement about reaching the finale and more. Read on.

How was your experience of Roadies Revolution?
The journey has been great. I started as a contestant and then I got a chance to be a leader and try to teach them the same lessons that I learnt on the show. The feeling was very surreal, very special and I was very happy to be back on the show as a leader.

How did it feel to share the stage with your mentors and be the new celebrity leader?
When I got a call for the show to be a celebrity leader, I was very nervous about the fact that my first ever hosting segment that I did with the channel was with Nikhil Chinapa. He was my mentor on it. Neha Dhupia, I have seen when I was hosting the on ground Roadies audition, Prince Narula was on my season but they all were much older than me. So, I always felt will I be able to speak up without being disrespectful towards them and I would constantly think about it. But when I came on the show everything happened so naturally to me. Everytime I did something or fought for the team, it was not a planned thing, it just happened because I had a responsibility on my shoulders to take them ahead in the game. So, I just forgot about everything else and I just thought about my team.

Even after being a first-time celebrity leader, you managed to reach the finale beating others. How does it feel?
It feels great because in my season when I was a Roadie, I went to top 8 or top 5 and I got out and I did not reach the finale. So it was great that I was standing next to Nikhil, my first day as a leader and then coming to the finale, it felt great. It felt that life had come a full-circle and what couldn't happen when I was a contestant, finally happened when I became a celebrity leader. I felt proud of all the three people who were there, I felt they were deserving. I felt the transformation in me, the responsibility that I had taken upon is now shaping up into a very nice thing and I was glad that I was there to help the contestants.

We have often seen gang leaders and mentors getting into a heated argument, but we always saw you kept quiet and not fight with anyone on the show.
So, every time someone fought and it did not involve me, I kept quiet. Because first I had to maintain the respect as I was easily 10 years younger to everyone else over there. Number two if I spoke there even without being involved, maybe their team would go against my team and I did not want that. So, I tried to play extremely safe throughout and safeguard my team. I wanted to just be respectful as far as I could be on the show. I knew for a fact that when it comes to me or my team, I am not going to stop, which happened in the last episode when I felt that Nikhil was trying to target with my team. I just went at it. I've learnt it from my mentors that don't speak when it is not required, don't speak when others are fighting for their problem, only talk when you are involved or someone is pointing at you directly.

What are the factors that made your team reach the finale?
I believe in teamwork and I have always believed that if a team believes in itself everything is possible. People did not consider my team to be the strongest physically and mentally. But I kept telling them to believe in each other and friendships made on the show. I think the reason we reached the finale was because they trusted me and I trusted them. I let my team enjoy their journey and I did not force any decision on them. Eventually, it was their journey and one Roadie had to win so it was important for them to enjoy their journey. I think that's the reason my team entered the finale against all the odds.

Talk about Divya's support during your journey during Roadies celebrity leader journey.
Divya's support was there throughout my journey. When I got a call for Roadies, I was supposed to do my next fiction show and luckily that got pushed and I remember discussing with her. I told her I don't know Divya I was going for fiction but now again I am going back to non-fiction and then she explained that you are going a step ahead and just go for it. She told me everything happens for a reason and it turned out to be beautiful and amazing. I knew that she is back home backing me up and I have constant support throughout.
