It’s a sad, sad world. At times, when everything looks good and great, unfaithful hands of Time grab the life out of you and send it to the realms of nothingness. Yes, we are talking about Rubina Shergill and her sad demise. She was promising, talented and was loved by everyone for her spirited portrayal of Simran in Zee TV’s Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein produced by Sunrise Telefilms. Many believed she was slowly turning into the heart and soul of the show. Now, her news of death spread a blanket of horror, shock and pensiveness on the television industry. Media reported extensively about it but none wrote about her pain and helplessness. Rubina was asthmatic and on the night of 23 December 2011, she was enjoying her heart out at a success party thrown by the production house, at a Mumbai-based five-star hotel. She laughed, she danced, she talked and spread an air of positivity all around. But little was she aware that Devil was also present at the same party, all ready to lay his icy hands on her. Suddenly she suffered an overwhelming and terrifying bout of asthma and struggled to breathe. And to her horror, she forgot to carry her pump, which was kept in her car stationed at the hotel parking. Witnesses say that Rubina’s brother rushed to grab the pump but by the time he returned, she has already sunk deep into the ocean. A car was called and she was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital. But on the way, she had two back-to-back major heart attacks. Imagine the situation, the girl struggling and battling death in the car, all helpless and gripped in immense pain. On reaching hospital, she suffered from brain hemorrhage and doctors told her parents that time has run out and soon she will enter the gates of heaven. But her dejected parents held on to hope and told them to keep her alive on ventilator. They did and she breathed and saw the light of life till yesterday afternoon. Yes, yesterday afternoon (12 January 2012), when the sun was beating the surface of the earth, Rubina was announced dead. Her cremation ceremony was conducted today early morning at Oshiwara Cremations Ground (13 January 2012). Tellychakkar.com talked to Vibha Chibber, who shared screen space with Rubina in Mrs Kaushik… as her mother-in-law, and she sounded shattered and said in tear-filled words, “I am shocked. I still can’t believe the girl is not with us anymore. I knew her since March 2011 but feel as if I have known her for years. She was sweet and used to call me ‘mama’. It is a great loss for us and also for the industry. I don’t know what more to say.” We understand, Vibha. These are tough times for all who loved Rubina. All we know is that now she is resting easy in God’s company in heaven. May the Almighty infuse strength in Rubina’s family members and friends to bear the loss. Amen!!!
