Writer-Director Satyajit Bhatkal, the mastermind who made the documentary on Lagaan Chale Chalo - the Making of Lagaan has canned Bombay Lawyers, a serial which is about five lawyers who fight judicial cases turn by turn.

Among the cast of lawyers are Murli Sharma, Mita Vashisht, Rushad Rana, Jyoti Dhokra and Marathi TV serial actor Kadambari. Murli is excited because, "I will be playing a positive character for the first time. Hope it goes on air soon."

Rumours are rife that NDTV India is coming up with a fiction channel which will air Bombay Lawyers. But according to other sources, the serial might even be aired in the month of October on the news channel itself. Come November, and everyone from the director to the cast appears clueless.

Commenting on the serial, Satyajit says, "We had completed shooting all the 13 episodes. It has been submitted to NDTV and is supposed to be aired shortly. But we haven't got the details of its telecast. Nor are we in the loop about a new channel from the NDTV stable."

Says Rushad Rana who is basking in the success of his movie Dor, "We shot for Bombay Lawyers a few months back. It is a very contemporary serial dealing with topical and relevant issues. It was to be aired on NDTV or a new channel they are supposed to be launching. Presently, we have not been informed about the status of the launch. I am looking forward to it."

Not many are aware that Satyajit was a practicing lawyer before he turned to filmmaking. One thing for sure; whenever Bombay Lawyers is telecast and on whichever channel, the stories drawn from the experienced lawyer's diaries are bound to leave a mark on television, given its fresh appeal. But the director is quick to clarify, "I will never expose the lives of my clients who have placed their trust in me. These are all drawn from experiences of other cases in the court. I always keep my eyes and ears open."

Hope the audience would get to see this exciting series without waiting for too long.
