UTV's Shanno Ki Shaadi, in the making for nearly two years, finally sees light of day on 7 August on Star Plus at 10.30 pm.

Divya Dutta plays Shanno, the simple, naive girl, whose main interest in life is making paranthas for her father’s dhaba. She is happy being the bride-in-waiting, waiting patiently for her Prince Charming.

Set against the scenic backdrop of rural Punjab, Shanno Ki Shaadi is a simple story of a young girl whose family and people around her are keen to get her married (shades of Jassi..., you say?). Not really. Unlike Sony's mascot, Shanno doesn't harbour academic or profesisonal aspirations. And her family thinks that at 26, Shanno is over the hill, and must be married off immediately.

Like most fairytales, Shanno’s dream of a Prince Charming too comes true. She does meet him. But who is this prince charming? Is it just a passing dream or is he here to sweep Shanno off her feet? Will Shanno give in to the pressures of the family or will Shanno fall in love? Aah, one needs to wait through KBC II and Baa, Bahu Aur Baby to know the answers.

Apart from Divya, the cast includes Kamini Kaushal as Shanno’s grandmother, Kulbhushan Kharbanda as the father, Shanti Lal Halwai, Shoma Anand as Shanno’s mother. Vikas Bhalla provides the romantic interest.

And for those who fret over the dragging of serials like Jassi, when interest in her is waning, there's hope. The channel is clear that Shanno is a finite serial, that's likely to be wrapped up in around 15 episodes. Or so they say now.
