Shweta Tiwari speaks about the copyright controversy of Mere Dad Ki Dulhan

MUMBAI: Shweta Tiwari is one of the most popular television actresses. She is best known for her performance in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. The actress is returning to television after a gap of three years with Mere Dad Ki Dulhan. It is a much-awaited television serial and also stars Varun Badola.

However, Mere Dad Ki Dulhan came under the scanner due to copyright issues. The show, starring Shweta, Varun and Anjali Tatrari in the lead roles, was called out for its copying the concept.

A case had been filed by Bollywood actress and Punjabi producer, Preeti Sapru, at the Bombay High Court for infringement issues. She had alleged that the show’s producers, Tony and Deeya Singh, have copied the concept of her upcoming Punjabi film (Teri Meri Gal Ban Gayi). According to Sapru, her movie also revolved around a father-daughter relationship, where the daughter tries to get her father remarried. And now, the actress has reacted on this big copyright controversy. Shweta at a recently held media conference said that the makers have won the case.  The show will hit the screens at the 10pm slot and there is no such controversy as brought out by everyone.  Mere Dad Ki Dulhan premiered on 11 November.

Speaking about the TV series, it focuses on the lives of a 50-year-old single parent Amber Sharma (Varun Badola) and her 24-year-old daughter Niya (Anjali Tatrari). Both share an adorable bond and are each other's best friends. Later, Guneet Sikka (Shweta Tiwari), a 40-year-old woman shifts in their neighbourhood. And upcoming episodes will show how the trust and bond blossoms between Amber and Guneet.
