MUMBAI: Singer Sonu Nigam, who despite being in Dubai for most part of the Lockdown, contributed in every way he could to aid Covid-19 relief measures. From opening up his Madh Island Bungalow for frontline workers to aiding the authorities in various ways, Nigam helped out as much as he could and his efforts were recognised by the jury committee of the prestigious ‘Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar’ award. Sonu was given the award by Governor Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari at his residence, Raj Bhavan at a ceremony held yesterday ie 7th November, 2020.

A source close to Sonu says, “The pandemic changed our lives completely and the world needed people to step up and rise to the occasion. Sonu was deeply affected by what was happening in the country and the havoc that Covid-19 created, he wanted to something that could in any way ease the pain and suffering of the people. From organising online concerts to helping doctors and nurses, Sonu extended a helping hand and the jury members took note of all the relief work he was doing. Since we still are not out of the pandemic, I hope this will encourage more people to come out and help those in need.”

Nigam, who received the award on November 7th at Raj Bhavan, continues to go on with his relief efforts and believes we all should try to help others in any way we can.
