Indian television has succeeded in creating millionaires but seldom does it offer creative satisfaction to an actor. However, creativity is often subdued by the big bucks. Seasoned actor Imran Khan is never afraid to speak his mind.

Commenting on the current Indian soap scenario, he says,"The concept of a story simply doesn't exist in our daily soaps. How can you have one track when a soap runs for 1000-2000 episodes? A story can only be visible in the first 20-25 episodes. Thereafter, the running of a show depends upon other factors than its story. Principal among these factors are the TRPs and the actor's availability. From there on, things continue to drag."

Doesn't that bother him as an actor? Imran replies, 'It used to earlier but I have no choice. After working in the television for more than a decade, you tend to accept the reality."

Experience teaches you the tricks of survival and Imran is no mood to rebel. The actor has bagged another soap. "I'll be playing an important role in a new show Dahej (dowry), that will be aired on 9X. While its plot may not be new, I'm happy that this show is highlighting one of the social ills of our society."

Though, it's too early to say that Dahej will succeed in creating a social awareness, atleast for now one man derives satisfaction out of it.
